In April 2006, the Scripps Howard Foundation announced a $15 million gift to the College of Communication at Ohio University to support a wide variety of College of Communication programs and initiatives involving diversity, technology, teaching fellowships, scholarships, internships, visiting professional residencies and more. As a result of the historic gift, the college was renamed the Scripps College of Communication. Each year, we celebrate the partnership with an annual Scripps Day event.
Scripps College of Communication is hosting Scripps Next Top Intern on Scripps Day, October 14th. Students selected by the Scripps Howard Foundation and E.W. Scripps Company will have the opportunity to impress a panel of judges while competing for a scholarship. Students will be judged on professional appearance, articulation, oral response, confidence, résumé and work samples.
This event is open to all Scripps College of Communication undergraduate students.
This will be a fun opportunity for communication students to compete for the title of the first annual Scripps Next Top Intern and win a $3,500 stipend along with a trophy from the Scripps Howard Foundation. All students are welcome to come and cheer on their friends.
Scripps is searching for that top intern, so do you think you have what it takes? We are calling all Scripps College of Communication majors for applications.
If interested, submit your résumé and cover letter telling us why you should be selected as the Scripps Next Top Intern. Make sure you include how this would fulfill your dreams by being able to use the cash award toward that internship.
Please provide the following as part of your application:
Submit your application VIA EMAIL by September 19th at 5 p.m. to Karen Peters, Internship & Students Services Specialist, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is the internship with the Scripps Howard Foundation or company?
No, they are the sponsors of the event on Scripps Day. You will be identifying the internship.
Will Scripps Howard find me an internship?
No, you will be identifying a place where you would like to intern.
Do I have to have an internship secured to apply for Scripps Next Top Intern?
What happens once I submit my résumé and cover letter?
All applications will be reviewed by Scripps Howard and they will choose 5 students who will be interviewed on Scripps Day. Each student will have the opportunity to talk 2-3 minutes to impress a panel of judges
Where is the “application”?
There is no application form. Your cover letter and résumé are considered the application.
The call for proposal says it is “open to all students."
Competition is open to all undergraduate students within Scripps College of Communication.
What is the date of activation and expiration of the stipend?
The winner will be able to use the $3,500 opportunity any time from November 2014 through December 2015 at a placement site of their choosing (providing the site wants them). If the winner is a senior he/she will get the full $3,500.
