In April 2006, the Scripps Howard Foundation announced a $15 million gift to the College of Communication at Ohio University to support a wide variety of College of Communication programs and initiatives involving diversity, technology, teaching fellowships, scholarships, internships, visiting professional residencies and more. As a result of the historic gift, the college was renamed the Scripps College of Communication.
On September 12 of that year, the Scripps College celebrated the gift by welcoming Scripps professionals to campus to interact with students. Hence, Scripps Day was born.
Over the past five years, Scripps professionals have visited a number of classrooms, critiqued resumes and conducted mock interviews, participated in panels and workshops and given keynote addresses on various topics in the communication industry.
The seventh annual Scripps Day took place Oct. 2, 2012. The topic of the day was innovation and the future of the Scripps College of Communication. Highlights included the announcement of the Scripps Innovation Challenge and a panel on innovation moderated by Scripps Visiting Professor Andy Alexander. Click here to read more about the event.
