Research Facilities:

Department of Biological Sciences
Available research facilities include an electron microscopy facility; a quantitative microscopy and imaging facility with a laser scanning confocal microscope; exercise and metabolic physiology facilities; a hybridoma facility; and a molecular genetics laboratory with computer-assisted DNA, RNA, and protein sequencing facilities.

Department of Chemistry And Biochemistry
Facilities for biochemistry research are housed in a 15,000-square-foot research building that was specially designed for biochemical research. Instrumentation on-site and available to students of the program include three superconducting NMR spectrometers, macromolecular modeling computer workstations, DNA and protein sequencing facilities, and a microinjection facility for the production of transgenic animals.

Department of Environmental And Plant Biology
The Department of Environmental and Plant Biology comprises research focus groups in Eastern Deciduous Forest Ecology, Plant Cell Wall Biotechnology, and Phylogenetic Systematics. Research facilities include Dysart Woods, the Greenhouse and Instructional Garden, Prairie Restoration Project, Ridges Landlab, West State Street Research Site, and NSF funded Genomics Facility.

Department of Biomedical Sciences
The Department of Biomedical Sciences supports several state-of-the-art research facilities, including transmission and scanning electron microscope suites, a quantitative microscopy and imaging facility with a laser scanning confocal microscope, cryostats, ultracentrifuges, a phosphorimager, gel documentation centers, nucleic acid sequencing facilities, a NMR facility, a mass spectrophotometry facility, AAALC-accredited animal holding facilities, comparative biomechanics lab and a hybridoma laboratory. Ohio University Libraries provide outstanding on-campus and on-line services.

Edison Biotechnology Institute (EBI)
The Edison Biotechnology Institute engages in many facets of research in molecular, cellular and developmental biology. The Wilfred R. Konneker Research Center houses the institute. With 40,000 square feet of laboratory space and state-of-the-art equipment, the facility was designed to meet the specific needs of biotechnology research.

Genomics Facility
The Ohio University Genomics Facility was created to enhance the research productivity of the researchers on campus and outside the community. The facility is equipped with the state-of-art instruments for DNA sequencing, microsatellite analysis, AFLP, SNP screening, DNA microarray scanner, quantitative PCR machine and other equipment to evaluate the DNA, RNA and protein integrity. The personnel at the facility also provide training and help with the experimental design. The facility also has dedicated computer workstations and special bioinformatics needs including customized programs for researchers can also be addressed here at the OU Genomics Facility in conjunction with the Bioinformatics group.
