Leader In Residence
Dr. Salam Bash Al-Maliky came from Iraq to join the GLC in October 2009. He holds a BSc in Nuclear Engineering and MSc and PhD degrees in Environmental Engineering. While in Iraq, he worked at the Iraqi Atomic Energy Agency as an engineer for two years. In 1994, he joined the College of Engineering at Al-Mustansiriya University (Baghdad/Iraq) as a faculty member. He was also the Director of the Agricultural Environment Department of the Environmental Research Center at Al-Mustansiriya University from 1998-2003. Dr. Al-Maliky is a specialist in the areas of air pollution, noise pollution and sanitary engineering. In Iraq and in addition to teaching, supervising MSc theses, and conducting research (published in numerous academic journals) in Iraq, he has also made presentations and led workshops at several local and international scientific conferences. Dr. Al-Maliky is a member of several organizations including the council of Environmental Researches Center at Al-Mustansiriyah University, Iraqi Engineers Society, Iraqi Translators Society, and Iraqi Environment Protection Society.
The Leader in Residence (LiR) position in the Global Leadership Center allows persons who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their field and career to assist GLC students and faculty – and the GLC itself – in any number of ways. The LiR can lend their expertise to specific projects (either "in residence" at Ohio University or from a remote location), provide advice and suggest improvements to the GLC curriculum, help with establishing project partnerships, and so on. The LiR position is, by nature, designed to be very flexible in order to allow the LiR to participate in a variety of ways of his or her own choosing.
