Sherry Butterworth Martin (07/27/2006)
I graduated from OU in 2003 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. I got married and started working in Lancaster, Ohio, where I currently reside. My first job was at a small office supply company as a Marketing Manager. Next, I worked for the American Cancer Society for 3 years as an Income Development Coordinator. During this time, we bought a house and moved in with our three dogs and then had a baby girl in 2006. Eventually, I decided that I no longer wanted to do a job that involved sales so I went back to school at Muskingum College and earned a K-12 teaching license in French. While in school, I started temping at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus and got an official job offer the day before I took my state exams for my license. Even though I love the French language/culture, I decided that there are more opportunites for me to grow at Nationwide so I have been a Sr. Administrative Assistant at the Finance Shared Services Center in Grove City since July 2008. I support three people (AVP, Process Management; Director, Data Governance; Director, Procure to Pay Accouting) and all of their associates which equals about 75 people. I think Nationwide is a great company to work for and I hope to be here for a long time.
As far as the GLC is concerned, I think it was one of the best decisions I made at OU. I have so many wonderful memories of the people I met and the adventures we had. I was in the class that went to the Czech Republic and I still remember the side trip that a few of us took to Austria and just wandered around Vienna for the day. How many students get to say they did something like that? Plus, I still keep in touch with a fellow alum, Cami Thompson. It was far from easy, but it was a great experience and I would recommend the program to any student that has the drive to succeed.
