After graduating from Ohio University in June 2001, I was recruited by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Business Recovery Services division. In the summer of 2002, this division was spun-off and sold to FTI Consulting, Inc. Through this position, I worked around the United States on numerous corporate bankruptcy, restructuring and litigation cases, including WorldCom, LTV Steel, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and Vanguard Car Rental (National and Alamo brands).
After 5 years at PwC/FTI, I spent 2 years as Senior Analyst with the Tribune Company which owned 9 newspapers including the Chicago Tribune, the L.A. Times, and Newsday, as well as WGN Superstation, the Chicago Cubs baseball team and CareerBuilder.com (to name a few).
For these companies, I assisted with multi-billion dollar debt refinancings, an initial public offering, a privatization, and the financial and operational turnaround of the business. I worked with individuals from all over the United States, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia and traveled to and trained staff in Singapore, Brussels and Luxembourg.
I have been afforded the opportunity to see the inter-workings of some of today’s largest corporations, worked directly with their top executives, and traveled the world. The insight from my assignments has provided me with an understanding of the fundamentals needed to either improve a struggling business or run a successful one.
I left Tribune to relocate to Southwest Florida with my husband, John Minerva, also a former GLCer, and took some time off after the birth of our first child, John Robert Minerva. Recently, I went back to work as a Senior Financial Analyst for Corporate Finance at the worldwide headquarters of Chico's FAS (owner of Chico's, White House | Black Market, and Soma retail stores). This position is a new one for the company and I am certain that my GLC training will prove useful as this positions evolves.
My experiences with the GLC taught me how to handle the multitude of ambiguous assignments I have received over the years and to think through logical deliverables - even when a clear directive was not provided. The program also gave me the confidence to travel abroad (often alone) to meet with my international clients. Without a doubt, my experiences in the GLC have aided in the success of my career.
Most importantly, I made some amazing friends while in the GLC and keep in touch with them still today. They are a very important part of my life, and I’m proud to know all of them.
