After graduating with an Anthropology degree, I have been living in Southeast Asia since August and will be working here till I start graduate school in the Fall. For the first few months I volunteered for an NGO in Sihanoukville, Cambodia called the Cambodian Children's Painting Project, that works to provide education, health, and social resources to orphaned and vulnerable children in the area often referred to as "beach kids". Currently, I am living in the GLC's favorite Thai city, Chiang Mai, and am working with organizations fighting the Burmese military regime through non-violent resistance. For the last part of my stay in Southeast Asia I have accepted a volunteer position with the Mekong Institute in their women's development department working in the Greater Mekong Subregion, primarily on the Thai/Laos border. My experience working with the GLC has propelled my capability to do effective work here ten-fold. The GLC has given me a foundation of NGO and consulting work that I use each day. Each project requires me to use skills learned from the GLC in order to successfully tackle the challenges ahead and produce something sustainable and meaningful. I can't wait to read other GLC bios and see the familiar pattern of passion and success. |
