Lou and I are still married and residing in Athens with our three-year old daughter, Isabella. We still own The Union, which has been an interesting part of my life for the last 5 years since Lou has been on active duty with the Army Reserves.
I have finished my MBA in Economics and Strategy at The New York Institute of Technology and am now working at Sunpower Inc. in Athens, a R&D company specializing in free-piston Stirling Engines. The engines we design and manufacture are being used in space applications (powering space flight and cooling electronic sensors in the Rhessi Satellite), solar energy, and cryogenic coolers to cool electronics for telecommunications and medical purposes. I am working on the administrative staff (which is tiny) with Sonita Uijt de Haag as the Special Projects Assistant, creating an export compliance program, applying for export licenses, facilitating immigration and deemed exports, managing a $22 million contract with NASA (and three other contracts), and helping with other odds and ends.
In my sixth week at Sunpower I am enjoying a lot of ambiguity and independence in my job, and my experiences in the GLC taught me how to face ambiguity with confidence and solve any problem that may be thrown my way. I also learned the important skills of multitasking, which has been an invaluable asset in many facets of my life.
