Outdoor Recreation and Education Minor

The outdoor recreation and education minor prepares students for professional opportunities in the field of outdoor recreation and education. Students engage in a combination of traditional didactic and field-based learning opportunities to develop technical skills, theoretical knowledge, leadership and teaching ability needed for successful practice as professionals in the field. Students have the opportunity to learn to organize, lead, and evaluate a variety of outdoor adventure programs. The minor is intended to complement other fields of study related to outdoor recreation and education. The minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours of coursework to complete and includes classes such as:

• Outdoor recreation and education 
• Concepts and issues in adventure programming 
• Wilderness first responder 
• Challenge course programming 
• Expedition planning and management 
• Wilderness living skills 
• Options in rock climbing, cross-country skiing, wilderness navigation, and whitewater kayaking
