View incoming class of 2013

There are currently 34 Cutler Scholars attending Ohio University, including the addition of the class of 2013, which brought 11 new Cutler Scholars to campus. Of the current 34 scholars, 11 are seniors, 6 are juniors, 7 are sophomores, and 11 are freshmen. With the graduating class of June 2009, there are 76 Cutler Scholar alumni.
Class of 2013

TERRENCE J. BERRY
Asbury Park, New Jersey
2009-2010 James E. Daley–Cutler Scholar
Benefactor: James E. Daley

A recipient of the Army National Guard Student of the Month Award and the Youth Hall of Fame Award, Terrence was also a member of the American Conference on Diversity Program, the Youth Advisory Board, and the National Society of High School Scholars. In addition, he was accepted to attend the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Conference, chosen as the 2008 delegate to China with the People to People Student Ambassador Program, and accepted to attend the 2008 Congressional Student Leadership Conference.

Other activities include serving as co-captain of the varsity bowling team and participating in the Actors Studio. Berry was also active in the United Fellowship Baptist Church where he participated in the Youth Ushers, choir, and the BASE Ministry program.

For his Outward Bound experience, Terrence went southwest rafting in Colorado.

ALEXANDER C. BILL
Chagrin Falls, Ohio
2009-2010 Pattison–Cutler Scholar

Alexander was the president of his high school Student Council and a member of the Debate Club, the Philosophy Club (co-founder, co-president), the Recycling Club, and the school orchestra (cello section). Active in school plays, he performed a number of supporting and lead roles in such productions as Oklahoma and The Pajama Game.

In addition to his academic involvement, Alexander earned varsity letters in track and swimming, was named First Team All CVC, and was the CVC Champion in the 110 hurdles in 2008. His community activities included the Suicide Prevention Education Alliance and the Community Partnership for Youth.

Alex spent his Outward Bound experience southwest rafting and kayaking in Utah.

ETHAN J. COTTRILL

Ethan, valedictorian at McClain High School, was also involved in the Spanish Club, the Quick Recall team, the Chess Club, the Envirothon team, and the Senior Executive Committee. Elected into the National Athletic Honor Society, he earned varsity letters in track and basketball. A ten-year member of 4-H, Ethan was junior and intermediate showmanship winner, master showman, Showman-of-Showmen, Skillathon winner, and overall county-wide Skillathon winner. He was also sentinel of the Future Farmers of America and was recognized numerous times by the organization for scholastic achievement.

For his Outward Bound experience Ethan went canoeing and rock climbing in Maine.

COLE P. CROUSE
South Salem, Ohio
2009-2010 Wilfred R. Konneker–Cutler Scholar

Salutatorian at McClain High School, Cole was president of the senior class and editor of the school newspaper. He was also vice president of the National Honor Society, captain of the Quick Recall team, and a member of Student Council, Latin Club, Chess Club, Drama Club, McClain Youth in Action, and the Junior Executive Committee. He received a varsity letter in golf. In addition to his school activities, Crouse volunteered his time with Special Olympics, the Red Ribbon Committee, the Hannah Losey Memorial Scholarship, and the Highland County Crippled Children’s Society Telethon.

Cole’s Outward Bound experience was southwest rafting in Utah.

ALISON N. LEONARD
Oak Hill, Ohio
2009-2010 Leona and Lewis Hughes–Cutler Scholar

Alison will enter Ohio University this fall as a nursing major. She plans to become a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant and work in a neo-natal intensive care unit. She was valedictorian at Oak Hill High School, was president of Student Council and a member of the National Honor Society (treasurer), Oakamania honors society, Library Club, Journalism Club, Science Club, Hi-Q Team, and the yearbook staff. She also served as a library aide, editor of the school newspaper, and prom committee member.

She was a silver scholarship certificate recipient, a National Honors Convocation nominee, and a Martin Essex School for the Gifted candidate, and she has been recognized in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and Who’s Who in Science. An outstanding athlete, Alison served as the varsity basketball captain and participated in varsity track and JV volleyball. Her community activities included community food drives, peer tutoring, coordinating the Join Hands for Janie Campaign, and volunteering with the Liberty Baptist Youth.

Alison elected to participate in southwest rafting in Colorado for her Outward Bound experience.

ELENA MIHAJLOVSKA
Bitola, Macedonia
2009-2010 Risto Gusterov–Cutler Scholar

Elena was president of her high school youth organization, a peer educator, and leader of a hiking group in the Bitola area. Along with being involved in environmental protection and Red Cross activities, Elena earned one first-place and two second-place awards in a regional mathematics competition and placed first in a regional handball competition as a member of her high school team.

SHAILA R. MEEKER
Bridgeport, Ohio
2009-2010 Alan E. and Ruby T. Riedel–Cutler Scholar

Valedictorian at Martins Ferry High School, Shaila was also a member of the National Honor Society and a student council representative. Listed in Who’s Who Among American Students, she was on the yearbook staff and active in Spanish Club, chorus, Chy-Phy, the Green Team, 5K committee, prom and homecoming committees, queen of queens committee, stage/set design crew, and musical theater.

Voted Top Renaissance Student, she also received the Junior Citizenship Award and the Hugh D. Brian Youth Leadership Alumni Award. In athletics, Shaila earned three cross country letters, one track letter, and several medals throughout each season.

Shaila’s Outward Bound adventure was southwest rafting in Colorado.

NICHOLAS H. VARGO
Orrville, Ohio
2009-2010 Charles and Marilyn Stuckey–Cutler Scholar

An exceptional student at Orrville High School, Nicholas plans to study mechanical engineering at Ohio University. While in high school, he was on student council, was chair of the canned food drive, and was a member of the first Orrville Young Entrepreneurs program. Nicholas also played on the tennis team (earned a varsity letter) and the baseball team; he was selected as the Ohio Cardinal Conference Scholar Athlete in 2008-2009.

Nicholas received the President’s Education Award for academic excellence, the Adam Lewis Engineering Scholarship, and the Orrville Chamber of Commerce Mathematics Achievement Award.

JAIME R. WARNER
Syracuse, Ohio
2009-2010 Dr. James H. and Nellie Rowley Jewell–Cutler Scholar

Salutatorian of her Southern High School graduating glass, Jaime was also vice president of the National Honor Society. She served on the Student Council, yearbook committee, prom committee, and Pep Club, and was honored on the All “A” Honor Roll. Jaime’s project was voted Science Fair Best of Class, and she was selected as a TVC All Academic. Recognized as Cheerleader of the Month, Warner served as the varsity cheerleading squad captain.

For her Outward Bound experience, Jaime elected to participate in the northwest sea kayaking program in Washington.

GABRIEL C. WEINSTEIN
Shaker Heights, Ohio
2009-2010 Jeanette Grasselli Brown–Cutler Scholar
Benefactor: Dr. Jeanette Grasselli Brown

Gabe plans to major in journalism through the Honors Tutorial College. A member of the marching, concert, and symphonic bands in high school, Gabe also participated in the Diller Teen Fellows Ambassadors for Unity and the Student Group on Race Relations. He earned numerous honors, including the Bronze and Silver Medal on the National Spanish Exam, and he won both the Wexner Israel Essay Award and the Synagogue Essay Award.

An outstanding athlete in cross country and track and field (team captain), Gabe was a medalist at numerous cross country and track meets, earning varsity letters in both sports. For community service, Weinstein was involved with Camp Ramah in Canada and the United Synagogue Youth and was a volunteer Torah reader at Synagogue and at Camp Ramah.

Gabe elected to participate in an international Outward Bound experience and spent 24 days in Costa Rica.

JAMES “ERNIE” WELSH
Pomeroy, Ohio
2009-2010 Dr. James H. and Nellie Rowley Jewell–Cutler Scholar

Selected for the TVC Academic Honor Roll and as a Buckeye Boy’s State delegate, Ernie was a member of the National Honor Society, was active in student government, and served as president of the senior class. Co-captain of the football and wrestling teams, he earned varsity letters in both sports. This past year he wrestled in the Southeastern Ohio District tournament. He was also involved in community service, including Special Olympics, Relay for Life, and the Red Cross Blood Drives.

Ernie’s Outward Bound experience took him to Colorado for the southwest rafting program.

RACHEL L. ACKERMAN
Willoughby, Ohio
2008-09 Beatrice Gibby-Cutler Scholar

Rachel is pursuing a degree in integrated science education in the College of Education and working towards a certificate in environmental studies. She made the Dean’s List her first year of study, and her extracurricular activities include College Green, serving as secretary of the Empower Campaign, and member of OU SCUBA. She is a certified lifeguard and holds Advanced SCUBA certification. ;

This past summer Rachel traveled to Australia to volunteer with an environmental conservation program. Her Outward Bound experience took place in Alaska, where she and her group kayaked through Prince William Sound, stopping to camp in the wilderness along the way.

ANDREW “CHASE” ALLMAN
Oak Hill, Ohio
2008-09 Leona and Lewis Hughes-Cutler Scholar

Chase is a sociology/pre-law major in the College of Arts and Sciences. His extracurricular pursuits at Ohio University include intramural football and softball. In high school, Chase was both an honors student and an outstanding athlete, playing varsity baseball, varsity football, and American Legion baseball. His community activities included coaching fifth and sixth grade boys at Oak Hill Elementary, raising money for UNICEF, and participating in blood and food drives.

This past summer Chase volunteered with the United Saints Recovery Program in New Orleans where he helped in the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. For Outward Bound, Chase went whitewater rafting on the Colorado River, which he says helped him learn many survival tips and personal skills to use in the future.

ALEX R. ANDERSON

Alex is a biology/pre-medicine major. He was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta this past spring, and his extracurricular activities include Reach Out on Campus, Up ’Til Dawn, and a mission trip working with Miami Rescue Mission.

This past summer Alex traveled to Pucallpa, Peru, to volunteer in a medical clinic. His Outward Bound experience took him to the Sunshine State, where he and his team kayaked through Florida’s Ten Thousand Islands. Alex wrote of his trip: "Teamwork and leadership were essential parts of my experience with Outward Bound. Our team worked beautifully together and accomplished everything we set out to do."

ANDREW T. BISSELL
Long Bottom, Ohio

Coming in as a National Merit Scholar and a Franklin B. Walter and Gateway Scholarship recipient, Andrew began working on his Bachelor of Science in criminology/pre-law at Ohio University last fall. He made the Dean’s List both fall and winter quarters, and in his free time, he continues to be a member of the River City Players, a community theatre group based in Middleport, Ohio.

This past summer Andrew’s volunteer enrichment experience took him to Panama. He was part of an alpine backpacking expedition with Outward Bound in Montana, where he scaled two separate mountains. According to Andrew, "We faced perils untold. It was exhilarating!"

COURTNEY L. GINTHER
Portland, Ohio

A biology pre-optometry major in the College of Arts and Sciences, Courtney continues to balance academic and extracurricular pursuits as she did in high school. She made the Dean’s List this past year and was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, along with serving as a member of the Pre-Dental/Pre-Optometry Club, as a volunteer for the local public library, and assisting with the Children’s Summer Reading Program in Ravenswood, West Virginia.

For her volunteer enrichment experience, Courtney traveled to Greece this past summer. Her Outward Bound experience took her to the Colorado Rockies, where she attempted mountain climbing, waded through rushing rivers, cooked over a propane tank, and built shelters to camp in. According to her, "The highlight of the trip was celebrating the Fourth of July on the Continental Divide."

SAMUEL L. MILLER
Logan, Ohio

Sam is pursuing an undergraduate degree in environmental geography in the College of Arts and Sciences. This past year he was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta.

For his volunteer experience this past summer, Sam spent seven weeks in The Gambia with Africa’s Operation Crossroads. His first summer enrichment experience was traveling with Outward Bound to Prince William Sound where he sea-kayaked with a group through the Alaskan wilderness. According to Sam, he learned how to set up and break camp, how to prepare meals for the group, and how to navigate, but most of all he felt that “working together as a group…helped strengthen my leadership and communication skills and also helped me to become more patient with others.” His father met Sam in Anchorage at the end of the trip, and together they continued to explore Alaska’s scenic destinations.

A graduate of Athens High School, Grace is pursuing an international studies and a Spanish double major, with a certificate in environmental studies at Ohio University.This past summer, she completed a volunteer experience in Cusco, Peru, with International Volunteer Headquarters. Her Outward Bound experience sent her to the Pioneer Mountains of Montana, where she backpacked for ten days, "climbing mountains, learning new skills, and making great memories."

Lacey R. Adkins

Lacey is majoring in health care and long-term care administration in the College of Health and Human Services and is pursuing a business administration minor.

This past summer Lacey completed an internship with the VA Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. Her volunteer experience involved coaching an AAU girls’ basketball team and traveling with her players to Huntington, West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Her Outward Bound experience was spent sailing and snorkeling in the Florida Keys.

Lindsay N. Cheek
Olean, New York
2007-08 Ann Lee Hancock Konneker-Cutler Scholar

Lindsay is studying music therapy in the College of Fine Arts and is pursuing a minor in psychology. A Dean’s List regular and a School of Music Student Activities Council member, her honors include second place in the sophomore soprano Ohio division of the National Association of the Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition. An inductee of Alpha Lambda Delta (community service director) and Sigma Alpha Iota professional women’s fraternity, she is also a participant in the Women’s Chorale (treasurer), the women’s a cappella group Title IX, the American Music Therapy Association for Students, and the Difficult Dialogues lecture series. She has also volunteered for Relay for Life, Athens Rocks for Autism, and Take Back the Night.

For her management experience, Lindsay interned at a behavioral healthcare facility in Pennsylvania. For her volunteer experience she traveled to Delhi, India, to work at an orphanage with the Institute for Field Research Expeditions. She also backpacked with Outward Bound in North Carolina.

Brittni N. Downs
Junction City, Ohio

Brittni is currently studying accounting, management information systems, marketing, and business/pre-law in the College of Business. In addition, she is pursuing a financial services sales certificate. On campus, she plays the mellophone in the Marching 110, and is a member of Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi financial information fraternity, Christian Business Leaders, Campus Crusade for Christ, the Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre, Toastmasters, the Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority,. Brittni also works as a teaching assistant in the College of Business.

This past summer Brittni traveled to Thessaloniki, Greece, to participate in the Global Competitiveness Program through the College of Business. While there, she and her team (which included a student from the host college, American College of Thessaloniki) were required take what they learned in the business cluster and apply it to the real world with their live client, Leroy Merlin. For her volunteer experience, she worked at the La Marina Wildlife Rescue Center in Costa Rica helping to care for the animals. She spent seven days whitewater rafting in Utah with Outward Bound.

Spencer A. McNeil

Spencer is majoring in economics and history and is a member of the International Business Society. Regularly named to the Dean’s List, he is also an employee for Ohio University Dining Services at Shively Dining Hall.

His summer enrichment experience in 2009 took Spencer to Cape Town, South Africa, with Connect 123. For his volunteer experience he traveled to Cuzco, Peru, to work at an orphanage with Original Volunteers where he helped teach English and participated in activities with the children. He rock climbed and backpacked with Outward Bound in Montana.

Jamie B. Smith

A creative writing major in the College of Arts & Sciences, Jamie is a participant in the Women’s Chorale, a sophomore representative of Sigma Kappa Sorority, secretary of both Belts Breaking Bondage and ALLY, and a peer mentor in the University College’s learning community program.

For her business enrichment experience, Jamie worked on a farm in Port Ward, Wisconsin. She traveled to Delhi, India, with the Institute for Field Research Expeditions to volunteer at a special needs orphanage in Fardibad for five weeks. For her Outward Bound experience, she canoed and hiked in Minnesota.

Jessica "Jesse" Branner

Stewart, Ohio
2006-2007 Bush-Cutler Scholar

A communication studies major in the Honors Tutorial College with a minor in Spanish, Jesse had two papers accepted by the Central States Communication Association Conference in St. Louis, Missouri. She was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta freshman honor society, is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-educational service fraternity, and a Spanish club member. She is extremely active in Future Farmers of America and was the recipient of an American FFA Degree, as well as being Ohio’s National FFA Officer candidate. She is also a member of the Ohio University Equestrian Team.

Jesse completed her volunteer experience with the Colorado Mountain Club where she taught youngsters about mountain ecology and wilderness survival. She also interned at the Maize Valley Farm Market and Winery in Hartville, Ohio, where she assisted with winemaking, event planning, hiring, and creating a children’s book. For her Outward Bound experience, she backpacked in North Carolina.

Cassie Costilow
Oak Hill, Ohio

Cassie is majoring in hearing, speech, and language sciences in the Honors Tutorial College. She is also pursing minors in psychology and linguistics. She has been on the Dean’s List and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. On campus, she is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-educational service fraternity, as well as serving as secretary of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association and in the conversation partner program with the Ohio Program of Intensive English. Cassie traveled to the Dominican Republic independent of the Cutler Scholars Program to volunteer with Orphan Outreach.

Cassie spent her volunteer experience working with Conservation Volunteers of Australia, where she completed beautification projects throughout Queensland. She also completed a sales and personnel internship at Peiner Traeger GmbH steel company in Peine, Germany, and whitewater rafted along the Colorado River with Outward Bound.

Matthew Denhart
Athens, Ohio
2006-2007 J. Warren McClure and Stephen H. Fuller-Cutler Scholar

An economics and political science major who is also pursing a minor in history, Matt has appeared on the Dean’s List every quarter and is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta. He is president of the Student Alumni Board, member of the Provost’s Retention Development Plan committee, member of the Council of Student Leaders, member of Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, graduate of the Leadership Institute, and coordinator of fundraising projects for the March of Dimes Foundation. He is also a peer mentor to the L.E.A.P Program, a chief research associate at the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, and a volunteer on The McClure Foundation Board. He has published five articles, including his most recent, “The Real March Madness,” which appeared in the March 20, 2009, edition of the Wall Street Journal. Matt received the Rudy Leadership Award in May 2009 and is a two-time finalist for the Student Board of Trustee position.

Matt’s study abroad enrichment experience took him to London, England, for six weeks to intern with the Institute of Economic Affairs. He traveled to Ghana to work at the Volta Home Orphanage through IFRE volunteers. He also completed an internship with Base Technologies in Washington, D.C., and kayaked off Prince William Sound in Alaska with Outward Bound.

A student in the College of Business majoring in finance and strategic management, Ana is a member of the National Honor Society North America Scholar Consortium, Alpha Lambda Delta, and the Financial Management Association. She is also pursuing a minor in Spanish and regularly works as a Spanish tutor at Alden Library.

For her community service experience, Ana returned to her native Macedonia and volunteered with the Red Cross and UNICEF, where she organized blood drives, collected charitable contributions, and taught young students Macedonian, English, math, and art. Her other summer experiences included an internship with the Chamber of Commerce in Naples, Florida, an OU study abroad in Mexico, and an Outward Bound experience in Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Emily Grannis
Shaker Heights, Ohio

Emily is majoring in journalism in the Honors Tutorial College with a Spanish minor. During the school year, she works as a legal intern, completing research projects and drafting opinions for Judge Thomas Hodson. She is also a writer for The Post, and teaches Spanish at Alexander Elementary school once a week. She was selected to intern at Legal Times in Washington, where she wrote short articles for their website and shadowed various reporters.

Emily’s enrichment experiences included an internship in the Public Information Office of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., where she handled questions from the media and the public. She also interned in the press department at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C., and sailed off the coast of Maine with Outward Bound.

James "Max" Henderson
Newark, Ohio

A Dean’s List regular and former president of Alpha Lambda Delta, Max is pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration, studying finance, accounting, and business pre-law in the College of Business. His awards include the C. B. and June Stephenson Scholarship and the Ohio University Gateway Scholarship. He serves on the executive board of the professional business fraternity Phi Gamma Nu (two-term treasurer; former communications and public relations committee head), the Ohio University Business Fellows, the College of Business Advisory Council (at-large representative), and the Student Senate as the senator for the College of Business and as an Academic Affairs commission member. Max is also a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society (junior advisor and past president), and Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society.

Max completed a business internship working as a financial analyst with KeyBank in Cleveland this past summer. During the summer of 2008, he studied abroad in Wuhan, China, where he participated in the Global Competitiveness Program, a cross-cultural consulting project. He traveled to Ghana for his volunteer experience and worked as a tutor and physical education instructor at an orphanage. He spent his Outward Bound experience mountaineering in Alaska.

Meghann Karnes
Greenfield, Ohio

Meghann is studying accounting in the College of Business. She was inducted in Alpha Lambda Delta, was the recipient of a scholarship from Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and was selected to receive a School of Accountancy Academic Award. On campus, she plays for the women’s club basketball team, serves as a teaching assistant for the Accounting 101 classes, and is a member of the waterskiing and wakeboarding club.

Most recently Meghann completed an internship in the tax department at Deloitte, where she prepared corporation and partnership tax returns. Before that, she was a summer staff member in Jackson at the Elizabeth L. Evans Outdoor Education Center. Brianne is a chemistry/pre-pharmacy major. A member of Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemistry fraternity, she is also president of the Pre-pharmacy Club, and a participant in Take Back the Night, Relay for Life, and Up ’Til Dawn, as well as an active member of Campus Crusade for Christ, and Athletes in Action. Brianne placed first in the 2009 Research and Creativity Fair in the Chemistry and Biochemistry session.

This past summer, Brianne traveled to the University of Koein in Germany to perform research into electrochemical isomerization, for which she produced a paper now submitted for publication. For her business internship, Brianne worked as a research assistant in the Department of Chemistry. She volunteered at the Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and worked with young patients through the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. For her Outward Bound experience, Brianne spent 10 days sea kayaking off the coast of Florida.

Taylor Anne Russell

Taylor Anne is majoring in social work and is in the women's studies certificate program. She is an active member of the American Medical Student Association.

Taylor Anne is pursuing a degree in sociology/criminology and a certificate in women’s and gender studies. She spent this past summer at the Waterford Institute of Technology in Waterford, Ireland, where she took classes in Irish culture, law, and social services. In 2007, she traveled to Romania and Hungary as a service project with Teen Mania where she was a volunteer counselor on a mission trip that distributed toys, blankets, and books to orphans and families in need. She also taught basic English to the girls in her group. For three summers, she has volunteered for the New Life Drama Company in Cleveland, Tennessee, for her business experience, which allowed her to travel to 41 different states. Her Outward Bound experience consisted of mountain climbing in Alaska.

John "Jay" Simmons

A business administration major, Jay studies finance, management information systems, and accounting through the Honors Tutorial College. He is a member of Student Senate, president of the International Business Society, an executive board member of Phi Gamma Nu professional business fraternity, and a member of Ohio University Student Equity Management Group, the Financial Management Association, the Ohio University Business Fellows, and the Snowcats Ski Club. Jay was instrumental in establishing an international student-mentoring program in the College of Business. This past summer Jay traveled to Pecs, Hungary with the College of Business’ Global Competitiveness Program.

Jay’s enrichment experiences include working with a team of financial analysts supporting the Scientific Products Division of Cardinal Health’s Supply Chain Services segment; study abroad in Altamura, Italy, and St. Victor La Coste, France, where he participated in restoration work on ancient ruins and a medieval castle; and three weeks of mountaineering and rafting in Alaska for Outward Bound.

Jordan Templeton

Jordan is in the Honors Tutorial College where she is pursuing a degree in business administration with a major in economic development and a minor in math. She is a research analyst for the Center for College Affordability and Productivity; a regular volunteer at Passion Works Studio, a local art production company for disabled Athens adults; and has taught Spanish at a local elementary school.

As part of the Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) program, Jordan traveled to Khon Kaen, Thailand, fall quarter 2009 to learn about the complexities of development and globalization issues. She was awarded a competitive Daniel K.C. Shao study abroad scholarship to help with travel expenses. Two of her three summer experiences have also taken Jordan out of the country. She completed her business internship with Fondo de Desarrollo Local, an international development firm providing credit to rural farmers in Nicaragua, and for her volunteer experience, she spent a month as an English tutor in Yantai, China, through Global Volunteers Network. She also went mountaineering in Alaska with Outward Bound.
