Since the program's inception in 1996, 60 Cutler Scholars have graduated from Ohio University. We feel that displaying their post-graduation achievements highlights the lasting impact of the Manasseh Cutler Scholars Program and provides a means by which current Cutler Scholars may form projections of their own lives after Ohio University.

Steven J. Carlson

Logan, Ohio

2004-05 Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc.-Cutler Scholar

A wildlife biology major, Steven has been on the Dean’s List every quarter and is a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. He has worked as a lab technician studying predator and prey interactions with ladybugs for two years. Beyond academics, Steven is part of the Christian organization Athens County Young Life, where he is a volunteer leader for area high school students. In this role, he facilitates youth programs and events. He is a member of the O-Zone and enjoys playing intramural soccer, broomball and floor hockey.


H. Patrick Karnes

Greenfield, Ohio

2004-05 Wilfred R. Konneker-Cutler Scholar

A civil engineering major, Patrick has been on the Dean’s List every quarter. He serves as the Junior Class Representative for the American Society of Civil Engineers; is treasurer for Tau Beta Pi, a multidiscipline engineering honor fraternity; and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. Patrick was nominated to be a member of the Engineering Ambassadors—a group which acts as a liaison between the students and the college of engineering. He earned the American FFA Degree, the highest degree bestowed by the National FFA. Patrick also participates in intramural sports.


Lauren H. Logan

Rutland, Ohio

2004-05 Bush-Cutler Scholar

Lauren, who has been on the Dean’s List every quarter, is pursuing a double major in electrical engineering and geology. She is president of Tau Beta Pi, the Ohio Delta Chapter of the engineering honor society. She is also president of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society, and president of Students Teaching About Racism in Society (STARS). Lauren serves as president of the Geology Club. She was the 2007 electrical engineering representative for the Technology Fee College Committee and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Alpha Lambda, the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshmen Honor Society and Golden Key International Honors Society. Lauren won the Outstanding Junior Award for the Department of Electrical Engineering for 2007.

 

Lauren has served as a judge at the Ohio State Fair for the 4-H Electric 1 project. She is also a member of the Stark County Gem and Mineral Club, through which she won an annual scholarship.

Colin McCrone
North Olmsted, Ohio

Colin is pursuing a French minor in Tours, France, during the first half of the 2007 school year. He will spend the second half of the year studying architecture history, European urbanism and Italian language in Florence, Italy.

Colin is a physics major in the Honors Tutorial College. He has been seen performing with the Singing Men of Ohio, traveling with the Society of Physics Students, tutoring elementary school and college students in math and physics, teaching physics labs, dancing with the OU Jitterbug Club and laughing with the Lutheran Campus Ministry for which he served as a Peer Minister.

Will is majoring in magazine journalism and sociology. On campus, he is the treasurer-elect of the Student Senate, having also served on the Senate’s Rules and Procedure Committee, the Consortium of Diversity Affairs Commission, the Dean of Students’ Council of Student leaders, the LGBTA Leadership Council and as the LGBT Affairs Commissioner. Will is the president-elect of ALLY and has served as the public relations chair and alumni relations chair of Phi Alpha Delta. He is a member of Alpha Kappa Delta National Sociology Honors Society and has worked as a tour guide for the Office of Admissions since his freshman year.

Jessica is an early childhood education major. On campus, she is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society. She also does field experience working with children with developmental disabilities and is a reading tutor.

Major : Journalism: Public Relations/History

Kristen is currently working in Columbus, Ohio, for a year before continuing her education. She graduated with high honors in 2007 from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, with specializations in both history and theater.

John Dravenstott, Paul F. and Gwyneth G. Hoff-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Business Administration, Honors Tutorial College

John is currently working for Key Bank in Cleveland as a investment banker. He is working with the Energy group with Utilities and Alternative Energy until April 2008 as part of his rotational program.

Paul Eselgroth, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Art Photography

Paul is a photography major in the College of Fine Arts, with a secondary studio focus in painting, as well as a music minor. Paul will be returning to Athens in the fall of 2007 to pursue the completion of his photography degree.

Major : Integrated Biology, Psychology

Meghan will be returning to campus in the fall of 2007 to complete her degrees before entering medical school.

Abby Jones, Leona and Lewis Hughes-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Environmental Plant Biology

Abby is working at Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. as a laboratory technician doing cell engineering and cell culture.  Currently, she is working with cells designed to detect Influenza.  Soon she will be applying to graduate schools to pursue a master's degree in landscape architecture.

Jaclyn Jones, Marathon Oil Company-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Business Management and Strategic Leadership, International Business
Minor : Spanish

Jaclyn graduated one quarter early with a B.A. in Management and Strategic Leadership and International Business and a minor in Spanish. She is currently working as a consultant for an IT consulting company named ATTEVO, Inc., located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Stephanie Ksionzyk, Ann Lee Hancock Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Anthropology and Political Science
Minor : History

 

Stephanie is currently searching for employment in international development. She hopes to work in the promotion of human rights and the alleviation of poverty in the developing world. Within the next year, she plans to apply to graduate school to obtain a master’s degree in applied anthropology.


Irina Panovska, Risto Gusterov-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Economics and Mathematics
Minor :  German

 

After graduation, Irina spent a month working as a consultant for the Macedonian Economic Institute, where she worked on a bank restructuring project. After spending the summer in her native Macedonia, Irina returned to the United States to continue her studies. She was awarded the Mr. and Mrs. Spencer T. Olin Fellowship from Washington University in St. Louis and moved there in the fall to begin her doctoral studies in financial economics.


 
Jenessa Phipps, Bush-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Major : Aviation

 

Jenessa is looking forward to a career as a corporate pilot. After exploring majors in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, Jenessa chose to seek a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation. She now holds her commercial pilot's license with instrument and multi-engine ratings.

 

Jenessa is delaying graduation to take advantage of a couple of opportunities to add to her number of flight hours. (Only enrolled undergraduate students can participate in these activities.) One is a very exciting internship with Ohio University's Air Transportation Services--the intern is copilot of the University's King Air 350. The other activity she plans to pursue is to be a Certified Flight Instructor. As a CFI, Jenessa is able to teach other aviation students.

Emily Carlson Carpenter, Bush-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Family Studies & Psychology

Emily currently works at the Family Resource Center in Findlay, Ohio, as a case manager for kids who have a mental health diagnosis. She focuses on skills-building and links with other community resources to advocate for their needs. She also runs skills groups and parenting classes through the agency. Emily and Matt Carpenter were married on November 10, 2007.

Carrie will be attending The University of South Carolina School of Medicine in the fall of 2007.

Bethany began pursuing a Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Arizona in the fall of 2006

Meghan McGuire, Cruse W. Moss-Manasseh Cutler Scholar

Following graduation, Meghan completed a three-month internship with National Geographic and has since relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where she currently works for Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) as a GIS analyst.
 
Annette Ratcliff, Jack G and Sue Mathis Ellis-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biological Sciences, Chemistry

After graduating from Ohio University, Annette began working full-time for Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. (DHI) in its research and development department. She traveled to Besancon, France, on an in vitro toxicology project and assisted in implementing DHI's Life Sciences division. She is currently attending Case Western Reserve University, pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences.


Carleen Risaliti, Mary L. Evans-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Psychology

Carleen just finished her first year of medical school at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C.


Marielle Scheible, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Early Childhood Education

 

Marielle is currently a Title 1 teacher at Parknoll Elementary School in Berea, Ohio, where she teaches reading and math intervention to students in grades K-5. She plans to start on her masters soon and will study elementary reading/literacy. Marielle moved into a newly built home in North Ridgeville, Ohio, in June.


Anne Valente, Jeanette Grasselli Brown-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biological Sciences, Honors Tutorial College

After graduation, Annie worked at the Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of Women’s Health in Washington, D.C., focusing on a behavioral change program to prevent obesity in both American Indian and Hispanic girls. She also worked for Fundacion Paniamor in Costa Rica, aiding its efforts to prevent the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children. She is currently working for Batiq, a startup web company in San Francisco that is creating an online global mentoring community. She will be attending UC-San Francisco in the fall of 2007.

In the fall of 2007, Jonathon embarked on his third year at the University of Toledo College of Law.

Elizabeth Cellar Biddinger, Charles and Marilyn Stuckey-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Chemical Engineering

Elizabeth lives with her husband, Josh, in Columbus, Ohio, where she is starting the third year of her Ph.D. program in chemical engineering at The Ohio State University.  For her research thesis, Elizabeth is studying catalysts for hydrogen fuel cells.  She received a University Fellowship Award for her first year of study at OSU.

Degree: Biology, Pre-Optometry

Liz graduated from Ohio University in three years with a major in biological sciences: pre-optometry.  She is currently attending optometry school at The Ohio State University.

Bradly Gough, Drs. Cruse W. and Virginia Patton Moss-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Civil Engineering

Bradly is a civil engineer with the civil engineering/landscape architecture design firm LandDesign in Tampa, Florida.

Matthew Hunkler, Alan E. and Ruby Tignor Riedel-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Civil Engineering

Matthew is currently attending graduate school at Ohio University and serves as a research assistant in the Civil Engineering Department. Eventually, Matthew hopes to work in an engineering firm as a structural engineer.

Rory Krichbaum, Thomas and Betsy Wheeler-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Mechanical Engineering

 

Rory is currently working for Michelin North America in Greenville, South Carolina, as a tire mold designer. He is also pursuing an M.B.A. through Clemson University.

 

Andrea Lehman, Herbert and Dorothy Adler-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Accounting, Management Information Systems

 

Andrea is currently employed by KPMG, LLP, in Columbus, Ohio, where she is a senior audit associate.  She specializes in the 'financial services' line of business and works for insurance clients such as Nationwide Financial Services.

 

Daniel Murtaugh, Paul F. and Gwyneth G. Hoff-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Accounting, Marketing

 

Daniel is currently a senior assistant in the Assurance and Enterprise Risk Services Practice of Deloitte & Touche, LLP in Chicago, Illinois.

 

Kacie Scherry Baon, Lizabeth and Charles R. Emrick, Jr.-Manasseh Cutler Scholar Degree: Sports Industry
Minor: Business Administration

 

In July 2005, Kacie moved to Columbus, Ohio, to work as an assistant allocator in Abercrombie and Fitch's home office.  She is still with Abercrombie and Fitch and has since been promoted to associate allocator.  Kacie and Chris Baon were married in October 2007. 

 

Michael Taylor, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Accounting, Business Pre-Law; Management, Strategic Leadership Minor: Economics

 

Michael married Delana Eichinger (BBA '06) in Athens, Ohio, in July 2006.  They currently reside in Columbus, Ohio, where Michael works at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Audit Practice.  Michael received his Certified Public Accountant license in October 2006.

 

Matthew Wisecup, Leona and Lewis Hughes-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Political Science, Spanish

 

Matthew just completed his second year of law school at the University of Cincinnati's School of Law.  He is on the Moot Court Honor Board, which sent him to the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the spring of 2007 to compete in a moot court competition, focusing on constitutional law.  He also helped host the UC Law's Rendigs Products Liability Moot Court Competition.

Class of 2004

Christine Brose, Bush-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biological Sciences

 

In the fall of 2007, Christine will begin her final year at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.  She is uncertain about where to go for her residency, but is strongly considering staying in Ohio.  She is trying to decide between psychiatry and physical medicine rehabilitation.

 

Amy Cameron, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Exercise Physiology
Minor: Psychology

 

Amy graduated with her master's in occupational therapy in December 2006 from the University of St. Augustine in St. Augustine, Florida.  She graduated with the Karen S. Howell Academic Achievement Award for the highest GPA in her class.  She is currently working full time in Jacksonville, Florida, for Cora Rehabilitation as an occupational therapist while working on her doctorate in occupational therapy (OTD).

 

Toby Fallsgraff, David C. and Joan Herrold Wood-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Magazine Journalism

 

After graduation, Toby worked as the statewide communications director for a candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court. Currently, he is a media relations consultant for M+R Strategic Services in Washington, D.C. Toby brings his communications experience to the Save Darfur Coalition, New Jerseyans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty and a host of other nonprofit organizations. In 2006, he earned a master's degree in campaign management at George Washington University. In his spare time, Toby is the frontman of an Indie rock band, Daddy's Gonna Kill Ralphie, which released its second album last year. (He still performs weekly at a D.C. sandwich shop.)

 

Bisera Gjosevska, Risto Gusterov-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Finance, International Business, Economics, Pre-law
Minor: French

 

Bisera recently graduated from the Hautes Ecole Internationale at the University of Geneva with a masters degree in international relations. She will start to work for the government of the Republic of Macedonia soon. While in graduate school, Bisera was an intern at the United Nations European headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

Kimberly Guffey Carrasquillo, Bush-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Journalism: News Writing, News Editing

 

Kim and her husband, Justin, live in Rocky River where Kim is a staff writer for the Sun News. They are the proud parents of Maddock Anthony (Mack) Carrasquillo who was born in 2006.

 

William Hardy, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Computer Engineering

 

Will completed his first year of graduate school at The Ohio State University in computer science in June 2005.  After interning with Nationwide Insurance in the summer of 2005, he decided to put his educationon hold and accepted a full-time position as an analyst of process management in the IT Project Management division of Nationwide Insurance in downtown Columbus.

 

Natalie Kruse, Drs. Cruse W. and Virginia Patton Moss-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Civil Engineering
Minor: Geology

 

Natalie is currently in the final months of her Ph.D. program in hydrogeochemical engineering at University of Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. After receiving her doctorate, she plans on either pursuing post-doctoral work at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne or returning to Athens to research mine-water remediation with Ohio University.

 

Ashley Morgan Massie, Leona and Lewis Hughes-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Early Childhood Education

 

Ashley and Waylon Massie were married in October 2004. They currently reside in Oak Hill, where Ashley teaches first grade. She finished her master's program at Marygrove College in July 2007. Ashley gave birth to son Grady James Massie on August 4, 2007.

Patricia D. (Bell) Scarborough, Jeanette Grasselli-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Interior Architecture

 

Following her graduation in June 2003, she moved to Columbus to work for Meyers Welsh Architecture + Design, pursuing her interest in sustainable building design. She was married in September 2004 to Ryan Scarborough, a graduate of optometry from OSU. A residency placement for her husband took them to Kayenta, Arizona, on the Navajo reservation in July 2006, where Patty continued her exploration of environmental architecture and design and volunteered her time at the local schools. She is currently self employed (Design Consultant, LEED AP) and works out of her home.

 

Kathleen A. Black, Paul F. and Gwyneth G. Hoff-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: International Business, Marketing and Finance

 

Recently, Katie’s life has been turned upside down with a handful of major life changes occurring in a matter of months. After spending the three years following graduation in her hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, Katie moved from the familiarities of the Midwest to Charlotte, North Carolina, in March of 2007. The move was made, not for a career change, but rather to follow her heart and to be closer to her soon-to-be husband, Jim, who proposed last December. Katie continues to work for Barefoot Advertising, a constantly growing Cincinnati-based creative shop, out of her home office in Charlotte. She is a Senior Account Executive at Barefoot Advertising and her experiences with the company have allowed her to grow further as a manager, leader, strategist and this year to even take on the role as a brand manager.

 

Rebecca A. Corbin Dingeldein, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Integrated Mathematics

 

Rebecca will be moving forward in her educational career during the 2007-2008 school year. She was recruited to teach 8th to 10th grade mathematics at Riverside Preparatory Academy, located in Oro Grande, California. (The school is a brand new charter school created by a group of educationally driven former superintendents of schools for the Victor Valley region.)

In addition, Rebecca will begin her master's program in curriculum and instruction this fall. She has been working extremely hard this year creating a new curriculum for the newly adopted standards for Algebra Essentials. She is looking forward to completing her master's by the fall of 2008 and then continuing her teaching career at Riverside Preparatory.

 

Alison K. Dawson, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biological and Psychological Studies

 

Allison graduated from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in June 2007. Her achievements were recognized by being selected to receive the Family Practice Award. Allison began her residency in Family Practice at Doctor’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, in July 2007. She married Josh Himes, a 2003 graduate of Ohio University’s College of Business, in February 2007.

 

Abigail M. Gilkey, Jeanette Grasselli Brown-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Business Administration, Marketing and Spanish

 

Abigail, a double major in marketing and Spanish, completed her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Ohio University in June 2003. Following graduation, she accepted a position as assistant human resources manager with the Parker Hannifin Corporation in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

 

Katherine M. Hinman, Lizabeth and Charles R. Emrick, Jr.-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Broadcast Journalism

 

Katie is currently a field producer for ABC News Nightline in Washington, D.C. She joined ABC News in December 2003.

Katie graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in journalism. After leaving Athens, she worked as a news assignment editor at WEWS, a Cleveland television station.

 

Emily B. Mayer, USX/Marathon Oil Company-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Sociology

 

Emily recently graduated from Penn State University with a Master of Education degree in Counseling and has accepted a school counseling position in Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

Sarah B. Spence, Leona and Lewis Hughes-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Journalism, Public Relations

 

Sarah currently serves as the administrative aide to Ohio 4th District Senator Gary Cates. She also serves as the secretary to the State and Local Government and Veteran’s Affairs committee and oversees constituent services within the office. In her spare time, Sarah serves as the political chair for the CapCity Young Republicans and as a regional vice-chairman for the Ohio League of Young Republicans.

Donna Ellis, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Interpersonal Communications, Organizational Communication

 

After graduating from Ohio University with a degree in organizational communication in June 2002, Donna accepted a position as the IT Computer Trainer at Hi-Stat, a division of Stoneridge Inc., located in Lexington, Ohio. She began working for The J. M. Smucker Company in Orrville, Ohio, in 2005 as a corporate training and technical writing consultant. In 2006, Donna was promoted to business process analyst at JMS. She is also attending Ashland University to complete her teaching certification so she can pursue a M.Ed. in Educational Technology.

 

Jessica Johnson Metz, James H. and Nellie Rowley Jewell-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Finance and Management/Strategic Leadership

 

Jessica is currently employed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury with the Bureau of the Public Debt and is a human resources specialist in labor and employee relations. She works with managers and executives in federal agencies across the country and travels extensively. Her duties include providing guidance to supervisors concerning disciplinary and adverse actions, investigating misconduct of employees, and representing management in dealings with labor unions. She was married in August 2006 to Brian Metz, an attorney with the U.S. Department of Treasury.

 

Bradley A. Kleparek, Jack G. and Sue Mathis Ellis-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Organizational Communication

 

After graduating from Ohio University, Bradley moved to the Boston area to work at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. as a general manager for one of the top-performing stores in the company. He currently lives in San Francisco and continues to work for Williams-Sonoma at its corporate headquarters. As the first product information manager for the Williams-Sonoma brand, Bradley leads the coordination, delivery and creation of product information for over 250 stores, catalog and Internet divisions.

 

Rachael Molnar, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Chemistry/Pre-Medicine

 

In August of 2003, Rachael took the Hippocratic Oath and received her white coat signifying the beginning of her current adventure. She is currently attending Case Western Reserve University and is pursuing an MD/PhD in Health Services Research.

Rachael has served on the Cutler Scholars Area Review Committee for the Cleveland area and has represented the program by presenting the Stocker award to incoming freshmen at their high school recognition ceremonies. Rachael attends Case Western

Emily is currently a strategist at Resource Interactive, an interactive marketing and technology company in Columbus, Ohio. As a strategist, Emily leads the initial phase of client engagements, helping to uncover the actionable insights that can shape a consumer’s digital experience. Emily joined Resource at the beginning of 2006 after completing her master's degree in integrated marketing communications at Northwestern University.

In prior roles, Emily consulted the Express and Victoria’s Secret brands as brand analyst at LimitedBrands. As a strategist for Big Red Rooster, Emily’s work took her to Asia where she conducted consumer research with Asian teens in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

 

Tyler Chamblin, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biochemistry

 

A biochemistry major at Ohio University, Tyler completed an internship and research work with Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc., of Athens as a Cutler Scholar. While at DHI, Tyler's internship focused on the development of a new Graves Disease assay, which eventually led to a new diagnostic product. He spent a summer working in a virology lab for Medvet Science in Adelaide, Australia, which ultimately led to a career change decision; Tyler elected to remain with DHI after graduation, where he acted as a product manager of DHI's thyroid diagnostic products. His array of responsibilities included sales, marketing, technical support and product development.

After completing his M.B.A. from Ohio University in August 2004, Tyler made the difficult decision to leave DHI in order to pursue other professional interests. He accepted a position with the Financial Planning and Analysis team at Victoria’s Secret Direct in Columbus, Ohio. In his role as a Senior Financial Analyst, Tyler is responsible for a variety of financial and strategic planning activities for Victoria’s Secret Direct’s catalogue and Internet operations.

 

Amie Cotter-Schilling, Alfred and Inez Corrado-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biology/Pre-Medicine

 

Immediately after graduating from Ohio University in June 2001, Amie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she enrolled in the MMSC Program in Anesthesiology and Patient Monitoring Systems at Emory University. She took her boards for licensing as a physician assistant in anesthesiology and graduated with a master's degree in August 2003. She accepted her first job as an anesthesiologist assistant at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She will be there four years in September 2007 and is thoroughly enjoying the job and everything Rock Hill and Charlotte has to offer. She spends her time outside of work running, doing yoga, rowing in a Masters level group on Lake Wylie, working on house projects and boating with her husband and friends. She is also active in her professional organization, the American Academy of Anesthesiologists Assistants (AAAA), as the membership committee chairman and AA day founder.

 

Allison Norwood, Alan E. and Ruby T. Riedel-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Biological Sciences

 

In June 2005, Allison graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. While in medical school, Allison traveled to San Francisco, Chicago, and New Orleans, representing her school at conferences of the American Medical Association, for which she served as vice-chair of the local AMA chapter. She also served as the only student member of The Ohio State Medical Association's Legislative Task Force and was a founder of the Appalachian Medical Student Society. In July 2007, she began her third and final year of residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Memorial Hospital-Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. She plans to pursue a career in General Pediatrics.

 

Lewis "Pete" Richardson, Herbert and Dorothy Adler-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Finance and International Business

 

Pete moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in March of 2007. After working as a relationship manager in the Upper Middle Market Division of National City's Corporate Banking Group in Cleveland, Ohio, Pete took the Corporate Credit Department manager position in a relatively new market for National City. Pete is now responsible for the training and development of 12 credit analysts, who in turn work with 17 relationship managers in three lending units, handling roughly $1.8 billion in loan outstanding. He has worked at National City for six years. After a year of experience in a growth market for the bank, he will either pursue his MBA on a part-time basis at SLU or Washington University in St Louis or full-time at either the University of Chicago, Northwestern, or the University of Texas. He is volunteering with Junior Achievement and helps teach various grades of students about business and economics. He would eventually like to become more involved in teaching business courses at the college level.

 

Heather Skeeles Shiner, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Magazine Journalism

 

In May 2004, Heather graduated Order of the Coif from Washington and Lee University law school. While a law student, Heather served as a staff writer on the W&L Law Review and as Lead Articles Editor on the Law Review Board. Her note titled, “Patient Autonomy Versus Hospital Choice: Can Courts, State Legislatures or Congress Require Catholic Hospitals to Provide Emergency Contraceptives to Rape Victims?” was selected for publication. Heather was elected service chair of the Women Law Students Organization. She also was secretary of the Public Interest Students Association. At graduation, Heather was in the top ten percent of her law class and received the National Association of Women Lawyer’s Award. Following graduation from law school, Heather clerked for the honorable Norman K. Moon, a federal district judge in Lynchburg, Virginia. She is currently practicing as an attorney in the New York law firm of Arnold & Porter.

On September 10, 2005, Heather married Mark Shiner, a law school classmate, in a ceremony in Lexington, Virginia.

 

Johnna Sloan, Lizabeth and Charles R. Emrick, Jr.-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Public Relations

 

After graduation, Johnna moved to Atlanta, where she started as a sales representative with Cbeyond Communications, a technology company specializing in VOIP (voice over internet protocol.) She was promoted to sales manager in Dallas, Texas, and most recently to Senior Sales Trainer in Chicago, where she currently resides.

Heather Baird Tomlinson, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Chemistry/Biochemistry

 

Heather completed her Ph.D. in pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in April 2007. While at Case Western, she studied the mechanistic basis of HIV-1 evolution. She is currently working at Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc., as the senior manager of Pharmaceutical Products. Heather has been actively involved in launching a new Life Science business unit at Diagnostic Hybrids. She and Adam Tomlinson were married on New Year’s eve in 2006 with Dr. Ping performing the ceremony. They reside in Cleveland.

 

Kevin J. Fritz, Beth K. Stocker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Pre-Medicine/Biological Sciences

 

Kevin finished his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on June 30, 2007. After graduation, he began working in private practice at Internal Medicine UPMC. (This involves both outpatient clinic visits and care of patients admitted to the hospital.) Kevin earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio, in June of 2004.

Kevin and Heather Dankmyer were married on September 2, 2006, in Pittsburgh, PA. They currently live in the suburbs north of Pittsburgh and are in final stages of building a new house in the area. In his spare time, Kevin recently developed a love for running and ran in his first marathon in Cleveland on May 20, 2007.

Cary B. Bishop, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Political Science

 

After college, Cary enrolled at The Ohio State University School of Law. While at law school, he did research on election reform law, assisted in criminal defense casework and worked for several months as a legislation reviewer for the chair of the Ohio Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Scott Oelslager. He has also been active in public service opportunities such as Volunteer Income Tax Assistance. He passed the Ohio Bar examination and was sworn in as a member of the Ohio Bar on May 10, 2004.

In addition to his law school activities, Cary interned for Vice President Gore for six months as a schedule and advance coordinator. He participated in the 2000 presidential campaign and assembled a motorcade for the Vice President's July 4, 2002, visit to Pittsburgh.

Cary currently works as an attorney for the Champaign County Child Support Enforcement Agency in Urbana, Ohio. He and Lorie Beth Smallwood were married on June 1, 2002, and reside in Springfield.

Alanna E. Beatty Eikenberry, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Elementary Education

 

After graduation Alanna moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, to teach in the Knox County School system. She also completed her master's degree in reading education through Ohio University's Elementary Teaching Fellows program. After teaching for seven years at Karns Elementary School, Alanna took a new position during the 2006-2007 school year as a literacy coach for Knox County Schools at Carter Elementary and Ritta Elementary. As a coach, she works with students to help improve their reading/language skills. She also works with teachers and administrators to plan, teach and facilitate the Knox County reading/language arts curriculum.

Alanna is married to Thomas Eikenberry, who earned both a law degree and an M.B.A. at the University of Tennessee. In 2005, Alanna and Tom became the proud parents of Max Eikenberry. Their second child, Anna Eikenberry, joined the family in 2007.

Marcie E. Barber Phares, Wilfred R. Konneker-Manasseh Cutler Scholar
Degree: Elementary Education

 

Marcie married Robert Phares on July 12, 2003, in Sidney, Ohio, and they honeymooned in Kauai, Hawaii. They have since carried out missionary work in Vincente Guerrero, Mexico, at a mission/orphanage called Foundation for His Ministry (FFHM.) Marcie and Robert are currently in Los Angeles, California, living out their dreams. Marcie has worked with animals at the Wildlife Waystation: a place of healing, refuge and education regarding exotic and wild animals. She is currently continuing her education career as a nanny/teacher. Robert is acting/filmmaking and has been featured on TLC, the History Channel, ABC and FOX, as well as others. He recently ran the Honolulu Marathon. They also continue to build their own E-Commerce business.
