During the first year of its relaunch (August 2022 to June 2023), CTLA and its collaborators provided 36 workshops, sessions, and group consultations on evidence-based instructional strategies, teaching with technology, course and instructional design and inclusive pedagogy. 340 faculty, staff and graduate student instructors participated.
Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) advances teaching and learning excellence at OHIO by providing University-wide resources and championing scholarly teaching that is student-centered, evidence-based, innovative and inclusive.
Newly expanded and relaunched in the fall 2022 semester, the CTLA serves instructors, departments, programs and colleges across the University. The CTLA's programming brings OHIO community members together to share ideas and expertise, implement evidence-based instructional strategies in various learning contexts and assess the effectiveness of teaching practices.
The CTLA's initiatives align with many presidential priorities, as well as the University's vision statement, by transforming the student learning experience to best support intellectual growth and skill acquisition and promote learner development as individuals and engaged citizens.
Current CTLA Topics
AI and Teaching and Learning
Faculty interested in exploring the ways Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can be infused into a course -- topically, as an instructional strategy, or as a significant support for student achievement of course learning outcomes -- are invited to apply to be part of the Fall 2024 AI-enhanced Course Redesign Institute.
The upcoming redesign institute will be facilitated by CTLA AI faculty fellows Paul Shovlin, assistant professor of English, and Jared DeForest, professor and chair of the department of Environmental and Plant Biology, supported by staff from the CTLA, the Office of Instructional Design and the Office of Information Technology. A stipend following completion will be provided. Both Shovlin and DeForest have extensively redesigned courses in response to GenAI developments.
