For the interested visitor we have captured some video footage taken during the Curved Missed Approach and Departure testing that was performed by Ohio University and guest pilots during the 1995-1996 time period.
The video (which is QUITE large) begins with a view from the right seat of the Piper Saratoga during some final maneuvering for the approach to the University (UNI) airport. The remainder of the video focuses on activity in the cockpit of the aircraft during the approach and missed-approach segments.
The guest pilot did not know whether he/she would land or declare a missed-approach until the missed-approach point was reached. At that time the safety pilot instructed the guest pilot to perform a missed-approach or took over the controls and landed the aircraft in preparation for a guided departure procedure (flown by the guest pilots). It is interesting to note the increase in pilot workload once the missed-approach is declared.
