Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster students are putting their artwork on display for the campus and community to view. The Student Art Show opens next Thursday, April 10, in the Raymond S. Wilkes Gallery for the Visual Arts in Brasee Hall.
"The show will feature a combination of students, both art majors and non-majors, showing their work from this year,” said Bianca Gery, one of the student organizers of the show. “I think it’s really nice to have this show be for both majors and non-majors. I think as students go through college, they increasingly see how important it is to show their work to other students and faculty and the community. It’s a way for them to network and show themselves to the community.”
The goal of the exhibition is to support and recognize the current works of art from students on the Ohio University Lancaster Campus.
“Students can submit any art they want for the exhibit,” said Gery. “Art is a form of expression and it shows somebody’s culture and history. It shows things they are interested in. It’s a way to showcase different people coming together.”
Gery said some students have submitted art work using recycled materials.
“They’ve taken recycled material and turned it into something really beautiful,” said Gery. “It’s really unexpected and neat to see.”
Trisha Clifford-Sprouse is the faculty coordinator for the exhibit. The opening reception will be held on April 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through April 25.
