May 12, 2016 : Women’s Softball Team Wins Championship

The Ohio University Lancaster women’s softball won the 2016 Ohio Regional Campus tournament. The OUL Cougars beat Ohio University Chillicothe by a score of 8-4 in the championship game to claim the title.

Softball TeamStudent Athlete Kylee Matheney pitched the completed game for the victory while Emily Matheney was named player of the game.

“This is only the second softball tournament championship in the history of Ohio University Lancaster Athletics,” said Jeff Whitehead, Athletic and Student Activities Director, “That’s what makes this victory so special.”

Ohio University Lancaster Campus supports several athletic teams including men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, men's baseball, men's and women's tennis, golf, and women's softball. In 2014-2015, Ohio University Lancaster was awarded ORCC All-Sports Award, given to the school that accumulates the most points competing in the eight conference sports.

The Ohio Regional Campus Conference was founded in 1973 and is an independent sports organization that serves the State of Ohio's regional campuses. The ORCC has nine members and currently fields eight sports-women's volleyball, women's basketball, men's basketball, women's softball, women's tennis, men's baseball, men's tennis, and golf.
