November 06, 2018 : International Education Week features Food, Film and Fun

In conjunction with International Education Week, The Ohio University Lancaster Diversity Committee is sponsoring an exploration of the cultures of Spain, France and Turkey through traditional food and games. Films will be shown with accompanying music to provide further opportunities to experience the culture of these countries.


The event will be November 13th through the 15th from 12:00pm-1:30pm every day. All food and activities will be at the Bobcat Bistro.




On November 13th, the food presented will be of France. Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo, and Croquembouche cooked up by guest student chef Maria Camacho.


For November 14th, the food will be of Spain. Paella, street Churros, and Mexican Chocolate Sauce will be offered.


Finishing up on November 15th will be the food of Turkey. There will be Lahmacun (Turkish flatbread with lamb and beef toppings), Baklava-layered Sweet Nuts, and crispy Phyllo Dough.




On November 13th, try your hand at Bilboquet, a traditionally French game involving a cup and ball. The game requires excellent hand and eye coordination. Come that day and give it a try!


November 14th using a Spanish Pirinola, come play “Toma Todo” for Chupa Chups. Chupa Chups are a popular Spanish brand of lollipops.


November 15th Enjoy a rousing game of Knucklebones. It is a game with deep historical roots, is played by millions of people around the globe, and is similar to Jacks.


International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs' efforts to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.


Ohio University will hold its International Education Week 2018 celebration on Nov. 11-18, 2018. The week's events will feature dynamic speakers, seminars, the Global Engagement Awards Ceremony and a wide range of events for the campus and community.
