July 31, 2013 : Early Childhood Education Students Study for PRAXIS Together

Lancaster – It may be summer. But, Ohio University Lancaster Early Childhood Education majors, past and present, are helping each other prepare for their licensure exam. Members of the OUL Ohio Student Education Association organized a study session for those interested in working together to prepare for the PRAXIS tests.


Former OSEA President Sarah Milam gave some tips on taking the two PRAXIS tests. The tests assess a new teacher's knowledge and understanding of educational practices that are foundational to beginning a career as a professional educator.


"It is great to have a former student volunteer to share her time and knowledge, discussing format and test-taking tips with current students," said OSEA Faculty Advisor Terri Green."Having students assume leadership roles, organize meetings and select topics that matter to education majors is exciting. This type of activity fulfills one of the goals of OSEA at OUL, developing leader-educators."


Milam reviewed the test blueprints and talked about the test formats, content categories and pacing suggestions.


"Having a student who has taken the tests share tips was very helpful," said Student Cody Nixon.


"I was really glad to get tips on pacing for the test," said OSEA President Kristen Green. "It put me at ease for the case studies on the test."


The PRAXIS tests also assess knowledge about theory as it relates to practice in an early childhood education setting.
