Eastern Cares: Supporting Students' Mental Health & Well-Being

Eastern Cares Logo

College can be challenging — especially for first-generation students, who make up over 51% of OHIO Eastern's student body. Balancing academics, social life, and work can take a toll, and accessing mental health care in Southeastern Ohio can be difficult due to limited services and long wait times.

Eastern Cares is an initiative at OHIO Eastern that bridges the gap by providing accessible, stigma-free support, fostering open conversations, and ensuring students get the help they need to succeed.

Eastern Cares Mission

Eastern Cares is committed to:

  • Expanding mental health resources for students
  • Reducing stigma around seeking help
  • Creating a supportive and inclusive campus environment
  • Connecting students with professional counseling and crisis support

Eastern Cares Partners

We are proud to collaborate with:

  • Tri County Help Center – Providing counseling, crisis intervention, and education to support student well-being.
  • Ohio Wellness Campus Collaborative – A grant-funded initiative through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, helping expand mental health support at Ohio University Eastern.

Get Emergency Support

An emergency is a life-threatening situation where immediate response from medics or law enforcement is needed. Examples may include someone actively trying to harm themselves or others, self-injury requiring medical attention, hearing voices or experiencing hallucinations, or apparent drug overdose.

If you or someone you know is an imminent danger to themselves or someone else, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911.
