OHIO Theater Division presents ‘In The Next Room, or The Vibrator Play,’ by Sarah Ruhl

The Ohio University Theater Division in the School of Dance, Film and Theater is proud to present the first production of the 2017–18 season, “In The Next Room, or The Vibrator Play,” by Sarah Ruhl, directed by Shelley Delaney, presented in the Forum Theater, Oct. 5–7 and 10–14.

In a seemingly perfect Victorian home, Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria:” the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor's laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new "hysterical" patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor's home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone, in the Theater Division's season opener.

Shelley Delaney, head of the professional acting program in the Theater Division, directs an all-student cast including M.F.A. actors Timothy Ashby, Ellie Clark, Brian Epperson, Annie Ganousis and Brue McGlumphy, and B.F.A. actors Simone Anderson and Haley Reese Calhoun.

The performances will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 5–7 and 10–14 in The Forum Theater in the RTV Building, with talkbacks following the performances on Oct. 7 and 11.
