Registration underway for this year’s Homecoming Parade

Registration is underway for one of Ohio University’s most-anticipated Homecoming events – the annual Homecoming Parade.

An opportunity for members of Bobcat Nation and the local community to celebrate everything OHIO, this year’s Homecoming Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7.

Organizations from the OHIO and surrounding communities are invited to participate in the parade with spirited floats, banners and displays all celebrating this year’s Homecoming theme “Back in the Mix, Back on the Bricks.”

This is no fee to participate in the parade, which is hosted by the Division of Student Affairs’ Campus Involvement Center. Prizes will be awarded to the top three floats and banners, and the winners will be recognized at the Homecoming football game that afternoon.

The online registration form to participate in the parade, as well as this year’s parade guidelines, are available here. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The committee organizing the Homecoming Parade is also interested in hearing from OHIO alumni who have convertibles and are interested in driving their convertibles in this year’s parade. For more information, click here

This year’s Homecoming Parade route will be the same as last year, beginning at the intersection of Union and Factory Streets before traveling up Union Street and making a right turn onto South Congress Street. From there, the route will:

  • Turn left onto President Street
  • Turn left onto Court Street
  • Turn right onto Washington Street
  • Turn right onto College Street
  • Turn left onto Union Street
  • Turn right onto University Terrace

The parade will end at Ohio University’s Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

The Homecoming Parade Grandstands, where floats and banners will be judged, will be located at OHIO’s Schoonover Center of Communication at Union and College Streets.

OHIO alumni, students invited to share their ‘Bobcat Beats’

Ohio University’s 2017 Homecoming festivities will revolve around the Bobcat-selected theme “Back in the Mix, Back on the Bricks” – honoring the School of Music’s 100th anniversary and the Marching 110’s 50th anniversary and paying tribute to the musical memories every Bobcat makes while at OHIO.

Members of the Homecoming planning committee are encouraging Bobcats past and present to get involved in the Homecoming celebration by sharing their OHIO musical memories.

Bobcats are asked to submit the song or album that best represents their OHIO experience. Ohio University alumni and students may submit their “Bobcat Beats,” as well as a favorite college photo if they’d like, via this online form

“Bobcat Beats” submitted will be displayed throughout OHIO’s Baker University Center during Homecoming Week.
