CLDC’s first-ever ‘JobFest’ to connect OHIO departments with students seeking employment

Employer registration deadline is March 10

Ohio University’s Career and Leadership Development Center (CLDC) is offering a new event designed to help OHIO departments meet their student hiring needs and recruit their ideal candidates while also providing opportunities for students to find future employment.

The inaugural “JobFest: Part Time, On-Campus, and Seasonal Employment Fair” is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21, from noon to 6 p.m. in Baker University Center 240/242.

According to Erika Peyton, assistant director for employer relations and marketing at the CLDC, JobFest will enable both Ohio University departments and off-campus employers to expand recruiting opportunities by meeting students from across the University. The event will allow students to explore opportunities offered by those entities for employment during both the summer and next academic year.

“We created JobFest so that employers offering summer jobs would have a specific event for advertising positions to Bobcats,” Peyton explained. “We also recognized that Ohio University employs thousands of students, so this is an outlet for on-campus positions to be marketed, too.”

Several Ohio University departments as well as off-campus companies and organizations have already registered for the event, including:

  • AmeriCorps/COMS-Corps – Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Boardwalk Family Restaurants
  • Camp Nuhop
  • Cedar Point
  • Home City Ice Company
  • Island Resorts
  • Ohio University’s Career and Leadership Development Center
  • Ohio University’s Department of Campus Recreation
  • Ohio University’s Office of Global Opportunities
  • Ohio University’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions
  • Peace Corps
  • Recreation Unlimited
  • YMCA Camp Campbell Gard

Registration for the event is free to all University departments. The deadline for employer registration is March 10 and is available online through the CLDC’s Bobcat CareerLink
JobFest is free and open to all Ohio University students and alumni, and registration is not required. Students can log in to their Bobcat CareerLink accounts to see the most-up-to-date list of employers attending.
While JobFest is not as formal as the CLDC’s bi-annual Career and Internship Fair, Peyton recommends that students attending the event bring their resumes and wear business casual attire (jeans and a nice shirt would be acceptable, too) for speaking with potential employers.

“Reach out to the employers that interest you beforehand to learn about the positions being offered, prepare questions and be ready to talk about yourself and your previous experiences,” Peyton advised students planning on attending the event.

OHIO departments who have questions about registering for the event through Bobcat CareerLink may contact Christi Gang, recruiting coordinator with the CLDC, at gang@ohio.edu. Those with questions about JobFest may contact Peyton at peyton@ohio.edu.
