OUPD Badge Pinning and Employee Recognition Ceremony planned

Deadline for Outstanding Service Award nominations is Jan. 30

Officers and staff of the Ohio University Police Department will hold their second annual Badge Pinning and Employee Recognition Ceremony at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9 in the Baker University Center Theatre.

The event will feature a keynote address by Athens County Common Pleas Court Judge George McCarthy and everyone in the community is invited to attend.

The goal for this year’s event is for new hires and the canine officers to have their badges pinned, along with employees who received a promotion last year. Employees who retired last year will be recognized, as well as those completing a milestone in length of service. Awards for Outstanding Service to the community also will be presented.

The department is still seeking award nominations from the community for outstanding service performed by a police department employee during the previous year.

Anyone wishing to nominate an employee for service they feel was extraordinary should send an email to Lt. Tim Ryan at ryant1@ohio.edu by Friday, Jan. 30, with the name of the employee along with the estimated date and description of the outstanding service. Those unsure if the service provided occurred within the previous year are still encouraged to submit a nomination.
