In honor of President Roderick J. McDavis’ 10-year anniversary at Ohio University, the OHIO Board of Trustees surprised President McDavis with a video tribute during Friday’s trustees meeting at Ohio University Eastern. The video, produced by University Communications and Marketing, was commissioned by the Board of Trustees in recognition of his leadership and accomplishments on behalf of his alma mater.
Focused around the theme of President McDavis’ inaugural Convocation address – reach for the highest star -- the video highlights several accomplishments achieved during President McDavis’ tenure, including the establishment of the Urban Scholars and Appalachian Scholars programs, the realization of record-setting enrollment numbers, the construction of several major capital projects and the early attainment of the $450 million goal of The Promise Lives campaign.
Special messages from Presidents Emeritus Dr. Vernon Alden, Dr. Charles Ping, and Dr. Robert Glidden commend President McDavis on his commitment to making Ohio University the best student-centered learning experience in America. First Lady Deborah A. McDavis reflects on her 50-year relationship with President McDavis, saying, “I am honored to have been by your side for the past decade, to bear witness to your sincere, resolute desire, in your role as Ohio University’s 20th president, to lift up your alma mater.”
Dr. McDavis became OHIO’s 20th president on July 1, 2004, making him the first African American president and only the second alumnus to lead the University.
