What are your personal and professional goals for the future?
My personal and professional goals for the future are to receive my Master’s in Social Work from The Ohio State University. Ultimately, I want to help people battling addiction, whether that be in the hospital setting or at an addiction center.
How do you feel your IHS courses help support you in achieving your goals?
IHS courses helped me prepare for my future in a number of ways. Personally, these courses allowed me to learn and gain knowledge of the different topics that I will be able to use within my career. IHS has prepared me to be able to pursue my graduate degree in Social Work in the fall.
What are some of your outside of school interests, that make you who you are?
Outside of school, I love exploring Athens and all the great things this town has to offer. I also love hanging out with my friends, working at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, or I have my nose deep into a book.
If you could positively impact a health disparity what would you focus on?
I think that a health disparity I could positively impact is the population who suffer from drug abuse and misuse. The opioid epidemic is something that has affected so many people within our nation and it also gets a lot of negative light shed on it. The one thing I want people to understand about this population is that drug addiction is a disease and it needs to be treated like one. We healthcare professionals need to try to reduce the stigma surrounding the topic.
What makes you smile?
I really enjoy my dogs who make me smile, corny jokes, and my friends (they all make me smile). I also really enjoy the humor TikTok gives me.
What makes you unique?
I think uniqueness is a quality we need more of within our society. Personally, what makes me unique is I’m not afraid to stand up for what I believe in and anything I put my mind to I try to accomplish. I also feel like I am a great listener and I tend to remember the smallest details.
