Current Majors: Quarters to Semesters Advising Help
Ohio University students should plan to meet with an advisor this coming year to to create an individual plan "just for them" to help make the change to semesters easy to understand.
The Sociology and Anthropology Department encourages all majors to prepare for their Q2S advising meeting by reviewing their DARS, inspecting the course requirements, and drafting an initial course plan for their remaining requirements.
Be sure to complete course sequences before the change to semesters. (Check with your advisor before beginning sequences that cannot be completed prior to fall 2012.)
A good place to start your advising plan is to look at the sample course schedule for your major under the new semester requirements. Pay attention to which courses are required, when we suggest that you complete them, and what types of electives to take.
Next, use your DARS to list the classes that you have taken along with those that you know that you need to take. You can then organize your classes into a four year plan. You can type a plan up in a word processing program, or you can use the Excel template provided by the department.

About OU Sociology and Anthropology
Our department builds from the strengths of faculty in the disciplines of Anthropology and Sociology. Both branches of the department emphasize scientific approaches to research, instructing students in contemporary topics of inquiry. Majors in Anthropology choose to focus in one of three areas: archeological anthropology, sociocultural anthropology, and biological anthropology. Students in Sociology choose to major in Sociology, Criminology, or can choose a Sociology Pre-Law Major. The department also offers a Masters of Arts in Sociology to train students in preparation for advanced graduate training or employment in a variety of applied settings.
With numerous teaching awards at the College and University levels the department has developed a reputation as a faculty of engaged, effective and compassionate teachers. Advanced undergraduate majors can gain hands on experience through internships in sociology and criminology, internships in anthropology or through the field school in Ohio archaeology.
Find us: In Athens, the department is housed on the main floor of Bentley Annex at the intersection of Richland Avenue and President Street. Sociology and Anthropology at OU are also represented by faculty on the regional campuses and through online courses.
Online news: Departmental news and events are reported through our Facebook page and through our annual newsletters.
