Acceptable Hours75 per cent of course work must be in Arts and Sciences courses (those offered in the College of Arts and Sciences or those accepted by the College as meeting the humanities, social science, or natural science requirements of the College--see the Ohio University Catalog for these courses). If a student is a dual major/dual degree candidate, this 75 per
cent requirement may be met by 144 hours of Arts and Sciences courses. Online Courses Online course may count as acceptable hours provided that the online courses were taken on the Athens
campus and taught by Athens faculty. Online courses taught from regional campuses do not count as Athens courses.
Foreign LanguageStudents must meet appropriate Arts and Sciences graduation requirements:for BA degree- completion of two year sequence through 213 or higher in one foreign language;
for BS degree- proficiency in a foreign language equivalent to 2 years of college study. (Two years of high school language equals one year of college language.)
Candidates not in the College of Arts and Sciences are held to the minimum BS degree requirement.
Humanities and Social Sciences36 hours of courses meeting the College of Arts and Sciences distribution requirements. Twelve of these hours must be in courses
on the 300 level or above. Hours in one's major are acceptable. Please see the Ohio University Catalog for each course to determine if the given course meets the College of Arts & Sciences distribution requirements.
Mathematics and Natural Sciences9 hours of courses meeting the College of Arts and Sciences natural science distribution requirement.
Residency RequirementCompletion of 75 hours and 5 quarters on the Athens Campus.
Lambda Chapter routinely screens students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Honors Tutorial College each spring quarter. Eligible students are elected during the first week of May and letters of invitation are sent out the following week. No application is necessary. Occasionally students outside the two colleges are elected if they meet chapter requirements. These students are not routinely screened and must submit their names to the chapter secretary.
