Yuri Pocztar (MS expected November 2008) is investigating the use of solar energy and fiber optic light panels to aid in the growth of algae within a new Pilot Scale Photobioreactor (PSP). Current light panels are being tested as a basis to aid in the development of new and improved light panels. Yuri will be testing new light panel materials, fiber optic sizes, and fiber optic arrangements to best maximize the light intensity while at the same time distributing the light evenly over the panel. The ultimate goal will be to use a solar collector with the light panels to provide a cheap and natural light source for the algae of the PSP to grow.
