The engineering management degree, a specialization of the Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering, helps individuals develop and strengthen skills in technology management. The track is ideal for those holding undergraduate degrees in engineering, physics, or other technical fields. Students move as a cohort through a fixed set of classes, learning how to manage engineers, scientists, and technologists in companies, government, and non-profit organizations.
Research-based, the degree is a combination of coursework and an individual project demonstrating the application of the science and methods learned. Courses include quality systems, communication, information technology, and systems engineering. Students are responsible for mastering the practice of engineering management and the underlying science and philosophy that governs many of the processes. There are no comprehensive exam components or thesis requirement.
The Engineering Management track has been delivered through distance education to all Ohio University regional campuses, as well as Lorain County Community College, since 1999.
