Ohio University Southern welcomes Ernie Hall as electronic media production assistant

Ohio University Southern welcomes alumnus Ernest (Ernie) Hall to the position of Electronic Media production assistant. Hall graduated in 2006 with an Associate Degree in Electronic Media, and he has more than a decade of experience in broadcast news.

Hall began his career locally as a photojournalist for WOWK (Huntington, WV) and has also worked as a freelance videographer. Most recently, he was the chief photographer for KHOG/KHBS in Arkansas.

Hall has won three News and Documentary Emmy awards in the categories of serious series, weather, and feature. “Black Market Babies,” May 2011, was the winner of the Serious Series category. “When Weather Strikes,” October 2015, won in the Weather category. “Murder Next Door: The Jersey Bridgeman Story,” October 2016, was the winner of the Feature category.

Having gained experience in Ohio, Florida and Arkansas, Hall says returning to the Southern campus was “a no brainer. I enjoy shooting, editing, and teaching so why not do it at the place where it all started for me?”

As a production assistant, Hall’s main responsibilities include video production, gear maintenance, and working with students. Hall hopes to pass on the knowledge he’s gained in his career to “help students understand what it takes to create, compete, and succeed in the broadcast industry.”

The Electronic Media program offers students hands-on training with the latest technology which prepares them for job market. The staff have diverse media skills, which aids the success of the students.
As for the impact Hall hopes to have on the Southern campus he said, “I hope to inspire students to move forward with confidence, knowledge and skill.
