CLDC’s next panel focuses on career options in creative jobs industry

They say creativity is the highest form of intelligence, and in an effort to help Ohio University students and alumni explore a diverse array of career options in the field of creativity, the Career and Leadership Development Center (CLDC) is hosting its first-ever Creative Jobs Industry Panel.

Free and open to all OHIO students and alumni regardless of their academic background, the Creative Jobs Industry Panel is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in Baker University Center 503.

"Our goal with the industry panels is to provide students and alumni in-depth perspectives on careers and industries that interest them and to broaden their horizons in terms of how their academic major can be applied to various fields," said Erika Peyton, the CLDC's assistant director of employer relations and marketing.

During the Creative Jobs Industry Panel, OHIO students and alumni will learn about the array of creative career opportunities and be provided an opportunity to interact with professionals in that field and learn how they built their careers in the arts. Because jobs in the creative field are so diverse, career opportunities and paths vary from person to person.

The first hour of the event will be devoted to the panel, which will feature:

  • Emily Beveridge, program specialist at ARTS/West and a graduate of OHIO’s bachelor of fine arts in painting and master of fine arts in painting programs
  • Laura Brooks, artist, jewelry designer and owner of Ellebrux specializing in fine art and hand-painted jewelry and accessories, and a graduate of OHIO’s bachelor of fine arts in painting program
  • Bailey Poland, author of “Haters: Harassment, Abuse, and Violence Online” and a graduate of OHIO’s creative writing program
  • Kailee Slusser, graphic designer for Ohio University Advancement Communications and Marketing and a graduate of OHIO’s bachelor of fine arts in graphic design program

The panel will be followed by 30 minutes of networking and light refreshments.

The Creative Jobs Industry Panel is the last in a series of three industry panels the CLDC debuted this year. Previous industry panels focused on careers in event management and healthcare.
