Presidential Advisory Council on Sexual Misconduct to review state data from spring benchmark survey

Ohio University received results on Tuesday from a benchmark survey by the Ohio Department of Higher Education that was voluntarily distributed across campus this past spring. While only 1,033 students (just 2.6 percent) of the student population responded, OHIO will ask the Presidential Advisory Council on Sexual Misconduct to review the data and make any necessary recommendations.

The University is aware there is work to be done and is continually working to improve prevention, education and response. The release of state data on sexual misconduct on campuses across Ohio provides an opportunity to remind the campus community how to report, request a training or access resources at https://www.ohio.edu/equity-civil-rights.

The University’s policy on Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, and Stalking, which includes detailed information on the Duty to Report, is available online at https://www.ohio.edu/policy/03-004.html.

The University provides a comprehensive list of resources available to report incidents of Sexual Misconduct, Relationship Violence, or Stalking online at https://www.ohio.edu/students/notifications/on_sa.cfm.

As reported on July 5, the University recently announced that Ohio University’s Division of Student Affairs has appointed Kimberly Castor and Kristin Waltz to Ohio University’s Survivor Advocacy Program (SAP). Castor has been named SAP director and will address campus-wide interpersonal violence; Waltz will serve as the program’s survivor advocate/case manager and will provide students with confidential crisis intervention.

Ohio University stresses that everyone can help prevent sexual assault by creating a culture of intolerance for that kind of behavior and is committed to providing support and resources for the entire campus community.
