From staff reports
With the fresh chill of Autumn in the air comes the annual Writers Harvest, hosted by Ohio University's Program in Creative Writing. It will be Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. on in the Baker Center Theater on the Athens Campus.
This year Writers Harvest, the nation's largest reading series working to help fight hunger, will feature Kevin Haworth, Ohio University visiting professor and editor of Ohio University Press; Becca J.R. Lachman, a recent graduate of the creative writing program and the assistant coordinator of the Student Writing Center; and Patrick O'Keeffe, the creative writing department's newest faculty member.
Last year's Writers Harvest raised $1,300 for the local food bank and our goal this year is $1,500. All proceeds from the $5 admission donation will go to the Southeastern Ohio Food Bank's Second Harvest, a food distribution program serving Athens, Hocking, Perry, Vinton, Jackson, Gallia, Meigs, Morgan and Washington counties.
Donations will be accepted in various locations throughout the week. There will also be a raffle where attendees can win gift certificates to local restaurants, tickets to theater shows and signed books.
Direct questions about the event to the Special Programs Office, Lindley 242, 707-3191. Questions concerning larger donations to the Second Harvest Foodbank can be answered at the following numbers: 800-385-6813 or 740-385-6813.
