On Tuesday, Vice President for Finance and Administration Stephen Golding sent an email to all Ohio University faculty and staff regarding the mild earthquake.
As you may have read in the news-and may have felt - at about 2 p.m. today Ohio University experienced an earthquake. Various national news sources have reported that the quake was centered near Mineral, Va. (about 100 miles south of Washington, D.C.) and that it lasted for 30 to 45 seconds. Different sources are reporting magnitudes of 5.8 to 6.0.
Although the quake was felt all over Athens County, local officials are reporting no damage.
Across campus, we did not experience any damage. Several buildings, including HRTC and West Union Street Office Center (HDL) self-evacuated, but now have returned to work.
We continue to monitor our facilities and should additional information become available, we will update the community in COMPASS.
