Alan has been employed at Ohio University and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety since February of 1997. He was hired as a Radiation Safety Officer/Health Physicist. He is responsible for supervising the daily activities of the Radiation Safety Office. These include dosimetry, personnel monitoring, oversight of radioactive materials use facilities, receipt and inventory of all radioactive materials, training, instrument calibrations and interacting with the various Federal and State agencies and the Radiation Safety Committee to establish and assure regulatory compliance within the University community. He also directs four laboratory technicians in their daily job activities.
Alan has a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering – Health Physics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Biology, both from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He previously worked at the University of Missouri, Radiation Safety Office for five and a half years in a similar capacity as his current position. He also has seven years of Geotechnical (radioactive sealed sources) and three and a half years of data processing consulting experience as well as two years of "legal" civil engineering background to round out his technical expertise.
