Constitution Day

Constitution Day Lecture on the
US Constitution & International Human Rights Law

The Center for Law, Justice & Culture and the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost are sponsoring this year's Constitution Day event on Tuesday, September 17. Professor Bert B. Lockwood, Director of the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights at the University of Cincinnati Law School, will deliver a public talk that afternoon. The Constitution Day talk will be Tuesday from 4:30 - 6:00 pm in Anderson Auditorium (Scripps Hall). Professor Lockwood will talk about the US Constitution as it relates to international human rights law. He is the editor-in-chief of the prominent journal Human Rights Quarterly and editor of the Studies in Human Rights Series through University of Pennsylvania Press.

Professor Lockwood maintains active and extensive involvement with human rights organizations and advocates around the world, including serving a three-year term on the board of directors of Amnesty International, USA. For 20 years, he has served as Rapporteur to the American Association of the International Commission of Jurists Annual Colloquium on The Role of Government Departments in the Formulation and Implementation of Human Rights Considerations in Foreign Policy. He also has served on advisory committees for a number of academic institutions including presently the Board of Overseers of the Human Rights Institute at the University of Connecticut, and co-founded the International Human Rights Education Consortium, a project that focused on undergraduate human rights education and curricula.

Priority Application Deadline for Pre-Law Specialist

The Center for Law, Justice & Culture at Ohio University invites applications for a position providing academic program support for the center's research and teaching program in law and society, through curriculum development, fundraising, grantwriting, communications, and mentoring. A primary responsibility is to provide pre-law advising to undergraduate students across the university. Review of applications will begin on September 29, 2013, and continue until the position is filled. Please click here to see more information and apply online. Qualifications include J.D. or Ph.D. with training in law & society. Starting date is negotiable, within a range from January 1 to August 15, 2014. The application for Spring Break Study Abroad: Human Rights, Law & Justice in Northern Ireland (ANTH 4620) is September 30. There will be an information session September 23. Please contact program director Dr. Haley Duschinski for more information.

Dr. Kathleen Sullivan has organized a panel on law school admissions process on October 9. The panel will feature Deans of Admission from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and Michigan State University College of Law.

Pre-Law Day

Ohio University is offering a full day of panel discussions and speakers to foster a better understanding of careers in the legal profession and the place of law in our society. The day's events are open to all students, faculty, staff, and community members. Pre-Law Day activities are organized by Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College.
