October 05, 2017 : Watch Investiture of Ohio University’s 21st President Live at Ohio University Lancaster October 18

The week-long inauguration celebration of M. Duane Nellis as the 21st president of Ohio University will feature an official investiture ceremony held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium and livestreamed on OHIO’s Lancaster Campus in Brasee Hall 414. The OUL watch party is free and all are invited to attend.

The 90 minute ceremony will feature Ohio University Lancaster’s Professor of English Scott Minar’s poem written to commemorate the investiture ceremony. The poem will be printed on the inauguration program as well as a card and lapel pin as the official keepsake of President Nellis’ inauguration.

The investiture of a new president is a ceremony of dignity with many academic traditions and protocols. It includes an academic procession of delegates from other colleges and universities as well as the institution’s faculty. The procession wears the colorful academic regalia of the institution from which they received their highest degree. The ceremony can include greetings from members of the University community, musical selections, and an official Inaugural Speech given by the new president.

The investiture of President Nellis, as with prior ceremonies for Ohio University presidents, will include the conferral of the Medallion of the Office, along with the display of the Ceremonial Mace which are both symbols of Dr. Nellis’ leadership role for the institution.
