Lancaster – Tis the time of year for shopping, and students have a chance to do a little shopping at Ohio University Lancaster – shopping for a major. The Ohio University Lancaster Majors Fair will be held November 19 and 20 on the first floor of Brasee Hall in the hallway in front of The Zone.
"The Majors Fair will highlight degrees offered on the Lancaster Campus as well as provide information about the many other degree opportunities at Ohio University," said Enrollment Manager Pat Fox. "With many of Ohio University's freshmen entering each fall as undecided, there is definitely a need for an event like this."
About 450 students at Ohio University Lancaster are undecided, meaning they have not declared a major yet. Data shows that students who have a clear goal are more focused, stay motivated to go to class and earn the best possible grades.
"While some students are unsure of the area they hope to pursue, others are challenged by the specific major to declare," said Fox. "Upperclassmen should also find the fair to be helpful because the fair also highlights additional career choices within specific majors."
Eighty percent of students entering college admit that they're not sure about what they want to major in. Some students declare a major now and change their minds later as well. Fifty percent of college students change their majors at least once.
Eighteen tables will be set up at the fair, and students can visit the different tables to gather information and ask questions.
"Representatives from academic departments, as well as offices such as Student Services and Career Services will be available," said Fox. "Students will have an opportunity to visit with faculty and staff, learn about different majors and certificates, and enter a drawing for raffle prizes."
The Majors Fair will be held on Tuesday, November 19, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, November 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
