Highlights from OHIO's official Calendar of University Events (CUE)

Welcome to Week 14 of summer semester and Week 7 of second summer session; the final week of classes for both! Don't forget final exams are scheduled for the last class meeting, so finish strong students! Athens can be a busy place in August -- it can get a little crazy with summer classes winding down and fall semester only weeks away. To help keep you on track be sure to check out the official OHIO Calendar of University Events (CUE) for all your dates, deadlines and event information.

Don't forget, anyone with an active OHIO ID can create events, and anyone with an e-mail address can register for events and set reminders for events in the future. To create an event, click Add Events on the CUE homepage.And even if your unit is not sponsoring any events, check the CUE to find out what’s happening.

Here are a few things happening this week:

Pushing Through the Long, Long Middle: A Graduate Writing Retreat (Aug. 7-9, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friends of the Libraries Room, Alden Library 319): Are you a graduate student feeling stuck in the middle of your dissertation or other long writing project? This three-day writing retreat is designed to help those who are struggling and unsure what to do next. It offers great one-on-one discussions and the tools to help break that writers block. A pre-retreat meeting with Director Talinn Philips and a follow-up Graduate Writing Group are mandatory to ensure successful results. This is the first in a series of writing retreats presented by the Graduate Writing and Research Center. Check them out and apply for the upcoming retreates now!

UCMU 203: Event Promotion Using the Calendar of University Events (Tuesday, Aug. 8, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., Alden Library Learning Lab 318): Did you know anyone with an Ohio University ID can add events to the Calendar of University Events? If you didn't, or even if you have never heard of the CUE, you're invited to attend this hands-on training session to expand your knowledge of event promotion! This UCM University session is open to all OHIO faculty, staff and students. Learn how the CUE can help you promote your OHIO events! Please register by 5 p.m., Monday, August 7.

Ohio University Catering Expo (Wednesday, Aug. 9, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Baker University Center 240/242): Have an event or party that needs catering? See what Ohio University Catering has to offer! Those attending the free expo can sample food, enter prize drawings and learn more about the catering menu and pricing. Representatives OHIO's Police Department, Risk Management and Parking Services units will be on hand to provide information and tips to help your event be safe and convenient for your guests. Child/Adult Immunization Clinic (Thursday, Aug. 10, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Grosvenor Hall): The OHIO Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine's Community Health Programs provides free, routine immunizations for eligible children from birth to 18 years of age. But did you know adults need vaccinations too? The Heritage College also provides low-cost vaccines for adults ages 19 and older. No appointment necessary.

#CUEtip: Having trouble finding the event you're looking for? Click the "Search" (directly below and right of the "Featured Events") to search every event created on the calendar. While on the search bar, you can narrow your results by changing the date range and selecting location, keywords and categories. An "Advanced Search" option is available to help further refine your search.
