Canadian Consul General Douglas George takes part in meetings at OHIO


Canadian Consul General Douglas George visited Ohio University during International Education Week in November to meet with students, faculty and staff, and to take part in a global education conference with leaders from business, higher education and government.

George currently serves as the Canadian Consul General representing Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan. A recognized trade policy expert and career diplomat with more than 30 years of experience, he recently held the position of Canada’s Ambassador to Kuwait.

During his time at OHIO’s Athens Campus on Thursday, Nov. 17, George took part in several activities, including:   

  • Meeting with Joe Shields, OHIO’s vice president for research and director of the Graduate College,
  • A lunch meeting with Shields, Russ College of Engineering and Technology Dean Dennis Irwin, Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs Dean Mark Weinberg, Vice Provost for Global Affairs and International Studies Lorna Jean Edmonds, Russ College of Engineering Associate Dean for Industry Partnerships Scott Miller, Ohio University Director of Industry Partnerships Kevin King, and International Economic Development Council President and CEO Jeff Finkle
  • Meeting with Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit
  • Visiting the Game Research and Immersive Design (GRID) Lab in the Scripps College of Communication
  • Touring the Avionics Engineering Center with Russ College of Engineering and Technology Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Studies, and Planning Shawn Ostermann.

On Friday, Nov. 18, George took part in the G.R.E.A.T Ohio Symposium, held by the Ohio Department of Higher Education on the Ohio University Dublin Campus. 

Several OHIO faculty and staff members also took part in the conference. The conference was designed to promote discussion between leaders from business, higher education and government about how the state of Ohio is educating students from Ohio and around the world in order to stimulate innovation and enhance the state’s competitive global excellence.
