Athens Pride Fest is June 9-11

University is site of Sunday rally and picnic on College Green

The June 9 event, which is sponsored by the Southeastern Ohio LGBT Coalition, the Southeast Ohio LGBTQ+ Center and the Ohio University LGBT Center, is a benefit Drag Show that will be held at Athens Uncorked located at 14 Station St. It is designed to raise funds for the organization to file as a non-profit. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tipping is encouraged.
The drag show will feature a raffle of items from local businesses, including: Lasting Impressions Photography By Lacey Jae, Athens Uncorked, Ohio University LGBT Center, EKO Dermal Arts, Flannel Fly 66, LLC, Kiser’s BBQ, Glam Graphics by Boston Michaels and items from members of the Coalition. Performers include Jasmyn LaBasha, Nova Kane, Boston Michaels, Daniel Kull, Starr Davis, Summer Knight, James Hawke and Mya Garrison.

FOUNDING FATHERS, Bright At Night, MOBILE HOME, Death To The State, and Water Witches with Columbus’ Velvet Hearts! burlesque troupe will perform at a Saturday, June 10 concert at The Union Bar and Grill located at 18 W. Union St. It will be a night of fun, entertainment, and LGBTQ+ Pride. Admission is $10 at the door. There will be raffles for local businesses and crafters all night. The night also will include a silent auction for goods and gift cards and a 50/50 split the pot.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Southeast Ohio LGBTQ+ Center’s search for a new home. To make a donation, contact the Southeast Ohio LGBTQ+ Center.

The Ohio University LGBT Center, Southeast Ohio LGBTQ+ Center and the Southeastern Ohio LGBT Coalition have joined in glittery collaboration to host the inaugural Pride Rally and the third annual Athens Pride Picnic on Sunday, June 11. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Pride Rally will take place at 2 p.m. on College Green by the Civil War Monument and is an opportunity for LGBTQA+ southeast Ohioans to be loud and proud. If you would like to speak at the rally, email lgbt@ohio.edu.

The picnic will take place after the Pride Rally on College Green. The probable start time is 3 p.m. The picnic is potluck style and is a dry event with no alcohol being served. Everyone is welcome to eat and enjoy the festivities.

The picnic organizers are working with Rural Action to make the picnic a Zero Waste event. They are looking for donations of compostable items and if possible, individuals should bring their own reusable cups/plates/etc. Rural Action will be providing stations for composting and recycling.
