Annual Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje Graduation Celebration is April 28

The 2017 Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje Graduation Celebration will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.

“Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje is an intimate gathering for family, friends and members of the Ohio University community to celebrate the culture and accomplishments of the multicultural undergraduate graduating class,” said Winsome Chunnu-Brayda, director of the Multicultural Center.

The ceremony was established in 1997 as two separate programs for African American and Latino students. Kushinda is an African word meaning “to win” and Ritos de Pasaje translates as “rite of passage” in Spanish.” The celebrations have since been joined.

This year’s keynote speaker is alumnus Bobby D. Scruggs, who earned his B.B.A. in marketing from the University in 1982. During his 33-year-career, he has held sales management positions with Fortune 500 companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber, BP Oil, Frito-Lay and Colgate-Palmolive.

He is currently the director of sales and c-store industry relations for Advantage Solutions in Austin, Texas. He also serves on the board of directors for the Austin Kappa Education and Leadership Foundation, a 501C-3 arm of the Austin Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Both families and friends of graduates are welcome to attend Kushinda/Ritos de Pasaje. To RSVP, contact Patricia Palmer at palmerp@ohio.edu or 740-593-4027.
