GIS and Mapping
It is estimated that approximately 80 percent of all information has a "spatial" or geographic component. A geographic information system (GIS) provides the tools to both visualize information and analyze data to facilitate decision making. The Voinovich School uses GIS to help organizations inventory assets, perform analyses and display information in a visual format in order to make better decisions. The Voinovich School uses GIS for many applications including county engineering, community planning and watershed research.
The GIS team also partners with the IT, Database, and Web Development teams to create rich web mapping applications that allow a user to not only view maps on the web, but interact with the data shown on the map to facilitate information gathering and decision making.
