Dr. Bhat has devoted years of research to the disturbing and growing phenomenon of school bullying via electronic means - kids intimidating and harassing each other through the use of cell phones, video and internet social networking sites and blogs.
An expert on cyberbullying, Bhat trains school counselors and parents on strategies to proactively address the issue of cyberbullying at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
Bhat's groundbreaking research focuses on the bully rather than the victim - who they threatened and why, the method used and how they felt about themselves afterward.
Through her research, she gained knowledge of student experiences during the senior year of high school and discovered, at some point, a large percentage of students had experienced some form of cyberbullying - both as a victim and as the bully.
