Alfred E. Eckes

Alfred E. Eckes is Ohio Eminent Research Scholar in Contemporary History and Professor of History. He teaches a Tier III course ‘Perspectives on Globalization’.

His recent books include U.S. Trade Issues (ABC Clio) and The Contemporary Global Economy: A History Since 1980 to be published by Wiley-Blackwell in 2011. Eckes is the author of nine books and hundreds of articles in academic journals and newspapers. They include a textbook Globalization and the American Century (co-authored with Thomas Zeiler), published by Cambridge University Press in 2003.

Prior to moving to Athens in 1990, Eckes served as Chairman (and Commissioner) of the U.S. International Trade Commission, and directed the staff of a committee with the U.S. House of Representatives. He also was Editorial Page Editor of the Columbus Dispatch.

He is co-editor of Routledge Studies on History and Globalization, and has edited the Global Economy Journal, an electronic journal published by Berkeley Electronic Press.  He has served as Executive Vice President of the International Trade and Finance Association (IT&FA), a multi-disciplinary association for academics and other professionals interested in all aspects of the global economy.   IT&FA has members in 30 countries.  Those interested in its activities may consult:
