Service-learning in Honduras

The intentio is to run this program during summer 2010.  However, this is contingent upon a stable political environment.

Service learning in HondurasThe Service Learning in Honduras study abroad program includes 2 weeks in Honduras during the month of June 2009. It is sponsored by the Higher Education Program and is directed by Peter Mather (Counseling and Higher Education).

The program will be of interest to students who are interested in higher education administration, international development, and Latin American culture studies. Students will not only 'do' service learning, but will learn about the pedagogy and practice of service learning. In addition, students will gain an understanding of how the educational system in Honduras serves the economic and social development needs of the Honduran people.

The program will include a service-learning experience in the Agalta Valley (rural Honduras), as well as visits to NGOs and institutions of higher education in two major cities: Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
