Architectural Drawing in Rome
Architectural Drawing in Rome
This Interior Architecture program will focus on significant architectural sites (interiors and exteriors) in and around the city of Rome, where the primary means of investigation will be through observational and analytical drawings using architectural conventions. Students will explore traditional and contemporary illustration techniques and media while informed by readings, presentations and discussions. This experience will complement the Interior Architecture students' historical studies in ARTI 480-482 with their experience of the actual sites in Rome, where students will spend time drawing and documenting sites with expanded discussions based upon readings tailored to the site visits.

The conceptual framework throughout the site visits will be the investigation of architectural forms as historic and cultural expressions.

The course will run chronologically from the Etruscans, Ancient Rome, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-classicism and conclude with significant structures of the 20th Century.  Additional discussion topics will include construction materials, building techniques and the decorative arts.  The emphasis of the program is to assist the Interior Architecture student in developing architectural drawing skills while deepening their knowledge and appreciation of architecture and interiors in the specific sociological/historical place of Rome.

Students applying to this program are eligible for a need and merit-based scholarship. Click here for the application.
