From staff reports
Ohio University police (OUPD) would like to remind the University community and visitors to the Athens Campus that changes to parking under and around Ohio University's Convocation Center are now in effect.
As previously communicated, "Best practices for public safety at special events include closely controlling vehicular access around event venues. Converting Lot 129 to daily parking will allow OUPD to more easily clear the area of vehicles if it is deemed appropriate to do so for specific events," said Ohio University Police Chief Andrew Powers.
Powers noted that the decision to remove vehicles from the area will be based on the total circumstances of each event at the Convocation Center. Adequate notice will be provided to ensure people have ample time to move their cars.
Beginning with this Saturday's men's basketball game, parking in Parking Lot 129 (which includes parking spaces directly under the Convocation Center) during men's basketball games will be restricted to those holding the appropriate basketball parking pass. All other vehicles will be towed from the area beginning two hours before tip-off. This procedure will be utilized for all men's basketball games for the remainder of this season.
Drivers should note that Ohio University police may also clear the lot for other special events on a case-by-case basis throughout the year. In such cases, signs will be placed in advance, warning drivers of the restricted times.
