President welcomes faculty and staff

On Monday, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis sent an email to all faculty and staff welcoming them to the new academic year.

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to a new academic year – one that is new in a number ways.

First and foremost this is our first academic year on the semester calendar since 1966-67. I want to thank members of our faculty and our staff who spent many, many hours reviewing and revising curriculum, advising students and working with them to create transition plans to ensure they graduate on time, building and developing technological infrastructure to support this change, and the scheduling of classes and classrooms. Led by Pam Benoit, Jeff Giesey, and Gary Neiman, your work has ensured a smooth transition for our students, our faculty, and our university community.

On July 1st, we began the first fiscal year with our Responsibility Centered Budgeting model. Successfully developing and implementing this new model will strengthen our ability to focus on our academic priorities with keen attention on the mission and vision of Ohio University. I want to acknowledge the work of Steve Golding, Pam Benoit, the academic deans, budget unit managers, and others who are putting this new budget model in place.

It is the work that we do together that makes Ohio University a special place. We are focused on student success and creating transformational experiences for the next generation of thinkers, leaders, and innovators. The goals that we achieve together elevate our region, our state, and our nation while improving the human condition in thousands of ways.

As a community it is important for us to come together at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year to celebrate the past and look to the future. In that spirit, we will hold a Faculty and Staff Convocation at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28th, in the Margaret M. Walter Hall Rotunda on the Athens Campus. Distinguished Professor John Kopchick will welcome those present and I will deliver a State of the University Address. For those who are unable to attend in person, the Convocation will be streamed on the web at: www.ohio.edu/mediaserver/live.cfm?videoid=ca120f2d7c40.

Thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do for our beloved university. I hope to see you at the Faculty and Staff Convocation on August 28th!

Cordially,
Roderick J. McDavis

President
