Gingerbread House Decorating Contest is Dec. 18

Registration deadline is Dec. 14

The sixth annual Ohio University Gingerbread House Decorating Contest will take place Tuesday, Dec. 18 in the Maggie Davis and West 82 seating area on the first floor of the Baker University Center.

The contest is sponsored annually by Culinary Services. Environmental Studies faculty and staff have won the last three contests.

The contest, which is judged by a panel of Culinary Service management staff, began as a way to make better use of the West 82 Food Court space over winter break.

The judges will look for creativity, complexity and the edibility of the construction. Each team will be rewarded for its participation and the top three teams will receive gift certificates for two large, one-topping brick oven pizzas from West 82 Food Court.

The 2012 team registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 14 and the entry fee is $12 per team. These are a few of the details about the contest:

″ The houses must be constructed between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

″ Judging will begin at 3:15 p.m. and winners will be announced immediately afterward.

″ Gingerbread, white icing and some other decorating items will be supplied. Teams are welcome to bring their own decorating items, but no additional gingerbread is allowed to be used in the construction.

″ All decorating materials must be edible.

To register for the contest or to receive more information, contact the Catering Office at 740-593-4035 or email catering@ohio.edu.
