Athens mayor and President McDavis sign memorandum of understanding additional appendices


Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl and Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis have executed additional appendices in the blanket Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as efforts continue in collaboration of formalizing initiatives between the city and the university. 

The executed appendices include: Appendix A-2, Mutual Assistant Agreement, renewed for four years; Appendix A-4, City-University Joint Patrol Agreement; and Appendix B-2, Fuel Agreement.

"Athens City and Ohio University continue their collaborative efforts of memorializing existing agreements in terms of shared resources and identifying additional endeavors that directly affect both the citizens of Athens and Ohio University. Dr. McDavis and I continue to direct these efforts via the MOU work group and applaud their efforts to date" said Mayor Wiehl.  

"By formalizing these appendices, we are strengthening our ongoing commitment to collaborate and enhance our relationship," said President McDavis. "I join Mayor Wiehl in expressing appreciation to the members of the MOU work group. Their recommendations are guided by a thoughtful approach to expand our MOU by maximizing our shared efforts and identifying tangible, meaningful, and mutually beneficial opportunities that will benefit our community members within the City of Athens and Ohio University."

Appendices executed to date in addition to the above-identified are: Fire Protection; City-University Joint Police Services Advisory Council; Co-Existing Infrastructure and Cooperative Projects; and Electronic Communication Equipment.Areas for future agreements include Utilities, Infrastructure and Services; Communication; Solid Waste; Transportation; Business and Economic Development; and Land Use Planning.

City of Athens representatives on the work group include: City Service-Safety Director Paula Horan Moseley, Council President Jim Sands, Council Member Chris Knisely, City Engineer Andy Stone, and City Planner Paul Logue. Ohio University representatives include Vice President for Student Affairs Ryan Lombardi; Associate Vice President for Facilities Harry Wyatt; Director of Engagement and Real Estate Management Donna Goss; Laura Meyers, Director, Office of Institutional Equity, and Chief of Staff and Special Assistant to the President Jennifer Kirksey.
