From staff reports
On Monday, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis sent an email to the entire University community inviting them to the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo.
Dear Colleagues and Students,
The Ohio University Student Research and Creative Activity Expo reflects our diverse strengths in student research, scholarship and creative activity from all academic colleges and regional campuses across the institution. More than 600 undergraduate, graduate and medical students and postdoctoral fellows participate each May to share the products of their imagination and insight.
Every year as I attend this showcase, I am impressed with the questions Ohio University students are tackling in their individual and team projects. Our students are developing innovative solutions to these issues, which range from environmental restoration and improved medical treatments to educational video game software and inspired ideas for theatrical costume and set design.
I invite you to attend this year's event, which will be held on Thursday, May 3, at the Convocation Center, to see how Ohio University students are learning beyond the walls of the classroom and contributing new ideas to our world. The 2012 expo will feature hundreds of projects that include topics such as performance modeling of electric hybrid vehicles, how media shapes American political discourse, the effects of repeated weight loss and gain on long-term health and the audience/performer interaction in a rock opera.
I encourage faculty members to bring their classes to the Student Research and Creative Activity Expo to support the efforts of our students. This event can be a valuable motivational tool for students, as it shows how knowledge gained in class can be applied to create new ideas. Participating in research has given many students the confidence and inspiration to pursue advanced degrees and professional careers.
The Student Research and Creative Activity Expo will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Judging will take place 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the public opening). Free pizza and beverages will be provided to all attendees until 1:00 p.m.
For additional information about the event, which is sponsored by the Office of the President, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and Dean of the Graduate College, and the University Libraries, visit www.ohio.edu/studentexpo.
